In April 1987, the authors monitored excavation of trenches for a drainage project in the area of North St. Mary's and Ashby Streets north of downtown San Antonio. The main concern was to observe and record the location and configuration of the Upper Labor Acequia in this area when it was crossed by trenching machines. A cross section of the acequia was recorded at the intersection of St. Mary's and Myrtle Streets.

In February 1986, test excavations were conducted outside the north wall of Mission San Juan Capistrano (41 BX 5). This testing was done to determine any potential impact of proposed City Water Board trenching activities on buried structural features. Although no structural remains were found, midden deposits were encountered. This report discusses the artifacts and the identified depositional strata of the midden.

Excavations at site 41 BX 1, located behind the Olmos Dam in San Antonio, Texas, were funded by the San Antonio River Authority. The excavations resulted in the documentation of a Late Archaic cemetery and Early to Late Transitional Archaic occupations. Thirteen human burials, accompanied by a variety of grave offerings, including deer antlers and marine shell ornaments, were radiocarbon dated 1680 B.C. (maximum date) to A.D. 260 (minimum date). In addition, two distinct occupational areas, horizontally separated from the cemetery, were investigated.

The State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) conducted archaeological testing along portions of FM 2790 near Elm Creek in southern Bexar County, Texas, in May 1988. Testing was performed to determine whether portions of the previously recorded prehistoric archaeological site of 41BX518 existed within the right-of-way near the drainage. Results of testing determined that 41BX518 existed beyond the right-of-way limits of the roadway and no subsurface deposits were identified. No further work is recommended within this portion of FM 2790 and a report of testing follows, including comments on natural soil deposits along this portion of the former …
