Sibling Relationships In The Context Of Birth Order, Carolyn S. Potvin
Sibling Relationships In The Context Of Birth Order, Carolyn S. Potvin
MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019
All of the research contained in this thesis is a collection of different methodologies and theoretical approaches on the subject of birth order and sibling relationships. Perspectives on the influence of the framework of family on personality development have been summarized, with an emphasis on empirical data related to communication patterns of siblings to each other. This paper is not so much an exploration into birth order as it is about the interactions of siblings in relation to family dynamics.
The first part of this paper probes into the consequences of birth order on individuality, in the context of the …

Sexual Difference And Black Communities, Barbara Smith
Sexual Difference And Black Communities, Barbara Smith
Center for LGBTQ Studies (CLAGS)
During my fellowship year I have had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of Black lesbians and gays' historical relationship to large Black communities through interviews with a variety of informants. I have especially made progress in my research concerning Black lesbians and gays in Cleveland, Ohio (which was the focus of my CLAGS colloquium) and in my documentation of Black educational institutions as identifiable locations of lesbian and gay life.

Gender Roles Presented In Children's Literature: A Random Selection And Analysis Of Non-Award Winning Books, Renae M. Poarch
Gender Roles Presented In Children's Literature: A Random Selection And Analysis Of Non-Award Winning Books, Renae M. Poarch
Sociology & Criminal Justice Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine the gender role stereotyping that occurs in children's non-award winning literature. This vast selection of non-award winning books has been neglected by researchers when selecting a sample to study. Past research has concentrated on the Caldecott and Newbery Award Winning books, which are not the majority of those owned by public libraries, hence not the majority being read by young readers. The purpose of this study was not to provide a list of appropriate reading material for parents and educators to select from, but rather provide an awareness of the issues so …

"Val Verde On The Sunny Rio Grande" Geoarcheological And Historical Investigations At San Felipe Springs, Val Verde County, Texas, Gemma Mehalchick, Terri Myers, Karl W. Kibler, Douglas K. Boyd
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
In the fall of 1997, Prewitt and Associates, Inc. conducted archival and oral history research, an archeological survey, and National Register testing of a prehistoric site in the vicinity of the San Felipe Springs in southeastern Val Verde County, Texas. The work was done in preparation for construction of a water treatment plant and related facilities for the City of Del Rio. The survey resulted in the recording of one historic site (41VV1820) and further documentation of historic and prehistoric components at a previously known site, 41VV444. The latter site also was the focus of intensive geoarcheological investigations. National Register …

Passing Performances: Conference Opens Closet Of American Theatre, James Wilson
Passing Performances: Conference Opens Closet Of American Theatre, James Wilson
Center for LGBTQ Studies (CLAGS)
Coincidentally, CLAGS's one-day symposium "Passing Performances: History, Evidence, Identification" occurred just as Hollywood's biggest film star publicly rejected the long-standing and wide-spread claims that he is gay. In a high-profile legal battle that concluded this past fall, Tom Cruise and his wife Nicole Kidman settled their libel suit against a London tabloid, which asserted that their eight-year marriage is actually a ruse constructed to conceal Cruise's alleged homosexuality. The couple reportedly settled for more than $500,000, and they hoped to quash rumors once and for all that their marriage is a sham. Even in this "post-Ellen" era, the suit reflects …
