Evaluation Salish Sea Marine Bird Indicators With Insights From Recent Research By Professional And Citizen Scientists, Scott F. Pearson, Martin G. (Martin George) Raphael
Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference
Marine birds are often viewed as good ecological indicators because they are relatively well studied and time-series data are often available, our understanding of their population biology is often extremely high, some species are tightly linked to their prey resources and, as upper trophic predators, they offer an integrative view of the dynamics at lower levels of the food web. In 2014, at-sea abundance and trends of the rhinoceros auklet, pigeon guillemot, marbled murrelet and scoters were collectively selected by the Puget Sound Partnership as indicators of the health of the Puget Sound marine food web. Long-term trends for these …

SWOSU Journal of Undergraduate Research
The SWOSU Journal of Undergraduate Research (SWOSU JUR), a journal developed and run by SWOSU students and faculty, is pleased to present its inaugural issue. The mission of the SWOSU JUR is to showcase the diverse research activities happening at our institution, and we hope to achieve this goal in the following ways: promote a collaborative atmosphere that encourages research and scholarly activities; foster mentor/mentee relationships between faculty and students; publicize original intellectual and creative contributions by students and faculty; and provide opportunities to engage in all aspects of research and scholarly activities.

Student Scholarship – Computer Science
This project was designed to create a program that can interface with user input through a keyboard to produce sounds through the use of the MIDI protocol. The goal functionality was to have the unit be able to interface with a Nintendo Entertainment System to produce synthetic sounds along with sampled sounds through the MIDI protocol. However, this goal was not able to be achieved due to technical limitations. Due to this, the sound of the A203 chip was emulated through use of sampled instruments using MIDI. The goal of this project initially was to also include a USB keyboard …

This policy brief of the European Union (EU) Think Tank – part of the FIT4FOOD2030 Coordination and Support Action (CSA) of the FOOD 2030 initiative – is a response and contribution to growing pleas for a ‘systems approach’ to transform food systems for Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) for present and future generations. This policy brief specifically focusses on the necessity of the adoption of a systems approach to Research and Innovation (R&I) in order to foster the transformation of food systems.

[This paper is part of the Focused Collection on Astronomy Education Research.] The NASA/IPAC Teacher Archive Research Program (NITARP) partners small groups of educators with a research astronomer for a year-long authentic research project. This program aligns well with the characteristics of high-quality professional development (PD) programs and has worked with a total of 103 educators since 2005. In this paper, surveys were explored that were obtained from 74 different educators, at up to four waypoints during the course of 13 months, incorporating data from the class of 2010 through the class of 2017. This paper investigates how participating teachers …
