Theoretical Investigations Of The Structural, Dynamical, Electronic, Magnetic, And Thermoelectric Properties Of Corhysi (Y = Cr, Mn) Quaternary Heusler Alloys, Abdullah Hussain Hzzazi
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Thermoelectric materials have potential properties for utilizing waste heat. The computations are used to estimate the electronic structure of CoRhYSi (Y = Cr, Mn) Quaternary Heusler alloys, as well as their elastic and magnetic characteristics. The full-potential linearized augmented plane wave is used in the calculations. The exchange-correlations are addressed using Perdew–Burke and Ernzerhof's generalized gradient approximation (GGA-PBE). With the exception of CoRhCrSi and CoRhMnSi, which are simple ferromagnets that are approximately half metallic in nature, electronic structure calculations demonstrate that these compounds have a gap in the minority states band and are obviously half-metallic ferromagnets. The magnetic moments of …

Cloud computing is a rapidly growing technology that has been implemented in various fields in recent years, such as business, research, industry, and computing. Cloud computing provides different services over the internet, thus eliminating the need for personalized hardware and other resources. Cloud computing environments face some challenges in terms of resource utilization, energy efficiency, heterogeneous resources, etc. Tasks scheduling and virtual machines (VMs) are used as consolidation techniques in order to tackle these issues. Tasks scheduling has been extensively studied in the literature. The problem has been studied with different parameters and objectives. In this article, we address the …

In recent years, people have paid more and more attention to traditional manufacturing’s environmental impact, especially in terms of energy consumption and related emissions of carbon dioxide. Except for adopting new equipment, production scheduling could play an important role in reducing the total energy consumption of a manufacturing plant. Machine tools waste a considerable amount of energy because of their underutilization. Consequently, energy saving can be achieved by switching machines to standby or off when they lay idle for a comparatively long period. Herein, we first introduce the objectives of minimizing non-processing energy consumption, total weighted tardiness and earliness, and …
Conversion From Coal To Natural Gas At Wright Patterson Air Force Base: An Analysis And Case Study, Tyler A. Ferry
Conversion From Coal To Natural Gas At Wright Patterson Air Force Base: An Analysis And Case Study, Tyler A. Ferry
Theses and Dissertations
Over the last 20 years, natural gas has replaced coal as the preferred fossil fuel for heat and power generation across the United States, due to its increased prevalence, lower cost, and reduced environmental impacts. While most conversion decisions are driven by cost savings, proponents of energy transitions often cite emissions reductions as a tangential benefit. Over the same time, climate change and its impact on the environment and society have come to the forefront of scientific inquiry. One example of the transition from coal to natural gas can be found in Dayton, Ohio. Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) …

Wastewater treatment is a very energy-intensive process. The growing population, increased demands for energy and water, and rising pollution levels caused by fossil-fuel-based energy generation, warrants the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. This research explored the energy consumption offset of a satellite water reuse plant (WRP) by using solar photovoltaics (PVs) and anaerobic digestion. The analysis was performed for two types of WRPs: conventional (conventional activated sludge system (CAS) bioreactor with secondary clarifiers and dual media filtration) and advanced (bioreactor with membrane filtration (MBR)) treatment satellite WRPs. The associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were also evaluated. For conventional …
Moving From Final To Useful Stage In Energy-Economy Analysis A Critical Assessment, Matthew K. Heun
Moving From Final To Useful Stage In Energy-Economy Analysis A Critical Assessment, Matthew K. Heun
University Faculty Publications and Creative Works
Given the climate change emergency, reducing energy consumption, which is responsible for most greenhouse gases emissions worldwide, is a priority. However, the strong historical link between energy consumption and economic growth questions whether continued economic growth is compatible with energy conservation targets. Conventional final energy analysis (common analysis methods applied at the final energy stage) has provided limited insights to this nexus. In response, this paper explores the extent to which useful stage analysis provides additional insights using three common methods: aggregate energy-economy analysis (growth rates, energy intensities, and Index Decomposition Analysis), energy-GDP causality testing, and Aggregate Production Function modelling, …

Blockchain is a disruptive information technology innovation with energy consumption. As more organizations look to implement or embrace blockchain innovations, research must focus on making the blockchain greener. This research explores the current innovative blockchain usage, structure, generations, and energy consumption. An energy consumption comparison for consensus protocols is provided along with a list of recommendations for implementing green blockchains. This paper provides a significant impact upon previous literature and aids organizations considering implementing a green blockchain.

: Due to the coronavirus, millions of people worldwide carry out their work, education, shopping, culture, and entertainment activities from their homes now using the advantages of today's technology. Apart from this, patient care and follow-up are carried out with the help of electronic equipment especially in the institutions where health services are provided. It is important to provide a reliable electricity supply for humanity so that people can perform all these services. In this study, the outlook of energy in Turkey was examined. The current energy consumption and investments were examined. Then, the precautions by the government in the …

The wireless sensor networks (WSN) are comprised of hundreds to thousands of compact and battery-operated sensor nodes. The deployed sensor nodes are widely used to sense the physical changes in the environment, which collect, aggregate, and transmit the information as data packets or static sink or monitoring station. Thedata transmission is very challenging under some extreme environments and applications. The efficient way of datatransmission is achieved by designing an energy-efficient routing protocol. The position of the sink nodes is broadcasted periodically to all other sensor nodes to forward the sensed data to the monitoring system or sink. The frequentbroadcasting of the …

The growing pollution in the environment and the negative shift in the global climate compel authorities to take action to protect the environment and human health. Transportation is one of the major contributors to this environmental decay. The harmful gases released to the air by the vehicles using petroleum fuel increase each day. One of the solutions is to make a gradual transition to electric vehicles. A major part of manufacturing an electric vehicle is to produce an efficient electric motor and battery for it. Reducing the manufacturing and operating costs of these components will result in reducing the overall …

Clustered Mobile Data Collection In Wsns: An Energy-Delay Trade-Of, İzzet Fati̇h Şentürk
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Wireless sensor networks enable monitoring remote areas with limited human intervention. However, the network connectivity between sensor nodes and the base station (BS) may not be always possible due to the limited transmission range of the nodes. In such a case, one or more mobile data collectors (MDCs) can be employed to visit nodes for data collection. If multiple MDCs are available, it is desirable to minimize the energy cost of mobility while distributing the cost among the MDCs in a fair manner. Despite availability of various clustering algorithms, there is no single fits all clustering solution when different requirements …
