Intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation measurements are performed on the N≥40 neutron-rich nuclei 66, 68Fe and 64Cr. The reduced transition matrix elements providing a direct measure of the quadrupole collectivity B(E2; 2+1→ 0+1) are determined for the first time in 68Fe42 and 64Cr40 and confirm a previous recoil distance method lifetime measurement in 66Fe40. The results are compared to state-of-the-art large-scale shell-model calculations within the full fpgd neutron orbital model space using the Lenzi-Nowacki-Poves-Sieja effective interaction and confirm the results of the calculations that show …

"This paper presents the magnetic flux distributions in Fe-based superconducting materials including single crystal of Ba(Fe1.9Ni0.1)As2 and Ba(Fe1.8Co0.2)As2, as well as polycrystalline SmFeO0.75F0.2As by means of magneto-optical imaging (MOI) technique. The single crystals were grown out of FeAs flux while polycrystalline sample was grown by hot-press. A MOI film with in-plan magnetization was used to visualize flux distributions at the sample surface. A series of magneto-optical images was taken when the samples were zero-field cooled and field cooled. The flux behavior, including penetration into and expelling from the samples, as well as pinning properties were studied. When external fields increase, …

The critical zone is the zone within which meteoric water, atmospheric gases, soil, and bedrock interact, encompassing the zone of soil formation (Anderson et al., 2007). The concentrations of various pedogenic compounds at a given location indicate the degree of weathering that has taken place in the Critical Zone. Among the products of chemical weathering are secondary phyllosilicate minerals (clays) and iron (Birkeland, 1999). At stable sites, chronosequence studies have shown that the amount of pedogenic iron oxide and clay increase as soils become older (McFadden and Hendricks, 1985).

Meteoric ¹⁰Be is a cosmogenic nuclide produced from oxygen and nitrogen …

Microstructure And Metal-Dielectric Transition Behaviour In A Percolative Al2o3-Fe Composite Via Selective Reduction, Zidong Zhang, Runhua Fan, Zhicheng Shi, Kelan Yan, Zhijia Zhang, Xiaolin Wang, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The electromagnetic (EM) medium plays a key role in many areas, such as communications, stealth technology, etc. Different EM properties are required for different applications. In this paper, we have obtained tunable EM properties in an Al2O3-Fe composite via selective reduction. By adjusting the content of one functional component, the composite shows totally different EM properties, in accordance with the predictions of effective medium theory. Hybrid EM behaviour is obtained near the percolation threshold, which has a close relationship with its microstructure.
