Fatty And Volatile Oils Of The Gypsywort Lycopus Europaeus L. And The Gaussian-Like Distribution Of Its Wax Alkanes, Niko Radulovic, Marija Denic, Zorica Stojanovic-Radic, Danielle Skropeta Nov 2013

Fatty And Volatile Oils Of The Gypsywort Lycopus Europaeus L. And The Gaussian-Like Distribution Of Its Wax Alkanes, Niko Radulovic, Marija Denic, Zorica Stojanovic-Radic, Danielle Skropeta

Danielle Skropeta

The detailed analyses of the volatile essential oil and lipid profiles of the aerial parts from the blooming and fruit-forming stages of both ripe and unripe fruit of Lycopus europaeus (Lamiaceae) are presented. Both of these profiles are distinguished by components with a restricted occurrence in the Plant Kingdom. These rare compounds include (E)-hotrienol in the volatiles, numerous unusual fatty acids (such as very long chain, odd-numbered and branched-chain) in the bound lipids and a high amount of iso- and anteiso-alkanes in the epicuticular waxes. Furthermore, a Gaussian-like distribution of the relative amounts of the epicuticular wax alkanes was observed. …

Effect Of Protein Stabilization On Charge State Distribution In Positive- And Negative Ion Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectra, Stephen J. Watt, Margaret Sheil, Jennifer L. Beck, Pavel Prosselkov, Gottfried Otting, Nicholas E. Dixon Jul 2013

Effect Of Protein Stabilization On Charge State Distribution In Positive- And Negative Ion Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectra, Stephen J. Watt, Margaret Sheil, Jennifer L. Beck, Pavel Prosselkov, Gottfried Otting, Nicholas E. Dixon

Professor Nick E Dixon

Changes in protein conformation are thought to alter charge state distributions observed in electrospray ionization mass spectra (ESI-MS) of proteins. In most cases, this has been demonstrated by unfolding proteins through acidification of the solution. This methodology changes the properties of the solvent so that changes in the ESI-MS charge envelopes from conformational changes are difficult to separate from the effects of changing solvent on the ionization process. A novel strategy is presented enabling comparison of ESI mass spectra of a folded and partially unfolded protein of the same amino acid sequence subjected to the same experimental protocols and conditions. …

Real-Life Vehicle Routing With Non-Standard Constraints, Wee Leong Lee Jul 2013

Real-Life Vehicle Routing With Non-Standard Constraints, Wee Leong Lee

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Real-life vehicle routing problems comprise of a number of complexities that are not considered by the classical models found in vehicle routing literature. I present, in this paper, a two-stage sweep-based heuristic to find good solutions to a real-life Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP). The problem I shall consider, will deal with some non-standard constraints beyond those normally associated with the classical VRP. Other than considering the capacity constraints for vehicles and the time windows for deliveries, I shall introduce four additional non-standard constraints: merging of customer orders, controlling the maximum number of drop points, matching orders to vehicle types, and …

Flux Distribution In Fe-Based Superconducting Materials By Magneto-Optical Imaging, Zhi Wei Lin, Jian Guo Zhu, You Guang Guo, Xiaolin Wang, S X. Dou, Tom H. Johansen, Xun Shi, K Y. Choi Jun 2013

Flux Distribution In Fe-Based Superconducting Materials By Magneto-Optical Imaging, Zhi Wei Lin, Jian Guo Zhu, You Guang Guo, Xiaolin Wang, S X. Dou, Tom H. Johansen, Xun Shi, K Y. Choi

"This paper presents the magnetic flux distributions in Fe-based superconducting materials including single crystal of Ba(Fe1.9Ni0.1)As2 and Ba(Fe1.8Co0.2)As2, as well as polycrystalline SmFeO0.75F0.2As by means of magneto-optical imaging (MOI) technique. The single crystals were grown out of FeAs flux while polycrystalline sample was grown by hot-press. A MOI film with in-plan magnetization was used to visualize flux distributions at the sample surface. A series of magneto-optical images was taken when the samples were zero-field cooled and field cooled. The flux behavior, including penetration into and expelling from the samples, as well as pinning properties were studied. When external fields increase, …

Influence Of The Iron Sheath On The Local Supercurrent Distribution In Mgb2 Wires, Marie Roussel, Alexey V. Pan, Sihai Zhou, S X. Dou Jun 2013

Influence Of The Iron Sheath On The Local Supercurrent Distribution In Mgb2 Wires, Marie Roussel, Alexey V. Pan, Sihai Zhou, S X. Dou

Shi Xue Dou

The magnetic behavior of iron sheathed magnesium diboride (MgB2) wires was investigated. Global magnetization measurements have shown unusual critical current density variations compare to a superconductor with no magnetic environment. Local quantitative studies, through MO images, are linked to these global magnetization measurements in order to better understand the observed results. It is shown that the current distribution is affected by the soft magnetic sheath interacting with the superconducting core.

Tor Bridge Distribution Powered By Threshold Rsa, Jordan Hunter Deyton May 2013

Tor Bridge Distribution Powered By Threshold Rsa, Jordan Hunter Deyton

Masters Theses

Since its inception, Tor has offered anonymity for internet users around the world. Tor now offers bridges to help users evade internet censorship, but the primary distribution schemes that provide bridges to users in need have come under attack. This thesis explores how threshold RSA can help strengthen Tor's infrastructure while also enabling more powerful bridge distribution schemes. We implement a basic threshold RSA signature system for the bridge authority and a reputation-based social network design for bridge distribution. Experimental results are obtained showing the possibility of quick responses to requests from honest users while maintaining both the secrecy and …

Lead And Associated Heavy Metal Distribution In El Paso, Texas, Ali Ragab Elkekli Jan 2013

Lead And Associated Heavy Metal Distribution In El Paso, Texas, Ali Ragab Elkekli

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Contamination by lead and other heavy metals is one of the most important environmental concerns of today, locally and globally. This issue has led scientists and researchers to study the effect of heavy metals and their distribution in the environment. The aim of the present research is to document the concentration and geographic distribution of heavy metals in El Paso.

The selected heavy metals in the El Paso soil are lead, cadmium, chromium, zinc, antimony and copper. The soil sample for the study was collected during a previous community lead study (RO1 ESO11367; 2001-2006). 500 superficial soils samples were collected …

Quantitative Analysis Of The Polarity Reversal Pattern Of The Earth's Magnetic Field And Self-Reversing Dynamo Models, Patrick Shane Craig Jan 2013

Quantitative Analysis Of The Polarity Reversal Pattern Of The Earth's Magnetic Field And Self-Reversing Dynamo Models, Patrick Shane Craig

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

The geologic record documents that the Earth's magnetic field has reversed 284 times over the past 160 Myr. This study uses two methods to analyze the scaling properties of the pattern of geomagnetic reversals and to analyze the scaling properties of reversals output by two mathematical self-reversing dynamo models, the Rikitake (1958) two-disk dynamo and the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model of Driscoll and Olson (2011). The first analysis method plots the duration versus cumulative probability for geomagnetic polarity intervals ranging between 0.01 and 35 Myr. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic is used to determine the optimal minimum value of xmin at which power …
