Fortune Cookies, Measurement Error, And Experimental Design, Greogry R. Hancock

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

This article pertains to the theoretical and practical detriments of measurement error in traditional univariate and multivariate experimental design, and points toward modern methods that facilitate greater accuracy in effect size estimates and power in hypothesis testing.

Design Considerations For Efficient And Effective Microarray Studies, M. Kathleen Kerr Jun 2003

Design Considerations For Efficient And Effective Microarray Studies, M. Kathleen Kerr

UW Biostatistics Working Paper Series

This paper describes the theoretical and practical issues in experimental design for gene expression microarrays. Specifically, this paper (1) discusses the basic principles of design (randomization, replication, and blocking) as they pertain to microarrays, and (2) provides some general guidelines for statisticians designing microarray studies.

Modeling And Design To Detect Interaction Of Insecticides, Herbicides And Other Similar Compounds, Timothy E. O'Brien Apr 2003

Modeling And Design To Detect Interaction Of Insecticides, Herbicides And Other Similar Compounds, Timothy E. O'Brien

Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture

This paper discusses model and experimental design aspects of agricultural studies aimed at discerning antagonism or synergy between two or more insecticides, herbicides, or other similar compounds. The developed methods involve a broad class of generalised nonlinear models, which are easily fitted to data using popular statistical packages such as the NLMIXED procedure in SASĀ® software. Sample computer code is given in the Appendix.
