Search For Higgs Bosons Produced In Association With A Vector Boson In Pp̅ Collisions At √S = 1.8 Tev, F. Abe, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Dec 1998

Search For Higgs Bosons Produced In Association With A Vector Boson In Pp̅ Collisions At √S = 1.8 Tev, F. Abe, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We search for Higgs bosons produced in association with a massive vector boson in 91 ± 7 pb-1 of pp̅ collisions at √s =1.8 TeV recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We assume the Higgs scalar H0 decays to a bb̅ pair with branching ratio β, and we consider the hadronic decays of the vector boson V (W or Z). Observations are consistent with background expectations. We place 95% confidence level upper limits on σ (pp̅H0V) β as a function of the scalar mass (MH0) …

Search For The Decays BS0,BD0 → E±Μ± And Pati-Salam Leptoquarks, F. Abe, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We have searched for the decays Bs0→ e±μ± and Bd0 → e±μ± using a 102 pb-1 data sample of pp̅ collisions at √s =1.8 TeV collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We set upper limits on the branching fractions of Ɓ(Bs0 → e±μ±) < 6.1(8.2) X 10-6 and Ɓ(Bd0 → e±μ±) < 3.5(4.5) X 10-6 at 90(95)% confidence level. Using these limits, we set lower bounds on the corresponding Pati-Salam leptoquark masses and find that MLQ(B …

Events With A Rapidity Gap Between Jets In P̅P Collisions At √S = 630 Gev, F. Abe, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report a measurement of the fraction of dijet events with a rapidity gap between jets produced by color-singlet exchange in p̅p collisions at √s =630 GeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. In events with two jets of transverse energy ETjet > 8 GeV, pseudorapidity in the range 1.8 <|ηjet | < 3.5 and η1 η2 < 0, the color-singlet exchange fraction is found to be R=[2.7 ± 0.7(stat) ± 0.6(syst)]%. Comparisons are made with results obtained at √s =1800 GeV and with theoretical expectations.

First Search For Cp Violation In Tau Lepton Decay, S. Anderson, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration Nov 1998

First Search For Cp Violation In Tau Lepton Decay, S. Anderson, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We have performed the first search for CP violation in tau lepton decay. CP violation in lepton decay does not occur in the minimal standard model but can occur in extensions such as the multi- Higgs doublet model. It appears as a characteristic difference between the τ- and τ+ decay angular distributions for the semileptonic decay modes such as τ-K0 π-ν. We define an observable asymmetry to exploit this and find no evidence for any CP violation.

Radiative Decay Modes Of The D0 Meson, D. M. Asner, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

In this paper we describe a search for four radiative decay modes of the D0 meson: D0 → φγ, D0 → ωγ, D0K-*γ, and D0ρ0γ . We obtain 90% C.L. upper limits on the branching ratios of these modes of 1.9 X 10-4, 2.4 X 10-4, 7.6 X 10-4, and 2.4 X 10-4, respectively.

Hadronic Transitions Υ(2S)→Υ(1S), J. P. Alexander, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

Using a 73.6 pb-1 data sample of Υ(2S) events collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have investigated the hadronic transitions between the Υ(2S) and the Υ(1S). The dipion transition Υ(2S) → Υ(1S) π+π- was studied using two different analysis techniques. Selecting events in which Υ(1S) → e+e-, μ+μ- (‘‘exclusive’’ analysis), and using the Υ(1S) leptonic branching fractions world averages from the PDG review, we obtained Ɓ(Υ(2S) …

Continuum Charged D* Spin Alignment At √S =10.5 Gev, G. Brandenburg, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

A measurement of the spin alignment of charged D* mesons produced in continuum e+e-cc̅ events at √s = 10.5 GeV is presented. This study using 4.72 fb-1 of CLEO II data shows that there is little evidence of any D* spin alignment.

Measurement Of The Branching Ratios For The Decays Of DS+ To Ηπ+, Η′Π+, Ηρ+, And Η′Ρ+, C. P. Jessop, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

Using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 3.9 fb-1 collected in e+e- annihilation with the CLEO-II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have measured the branching ratios for the decay modes Ds+ → (η, η′)π+ and Ds+ → (η, η′)ρ+ relative to Ds+ → φπ+. These decay modes are among the most common hadronic decays of the Ds+, and can be related by factorization to the semileptonic decays Ds+ → (η, η′)+ν1 . …

Observation Of High Momentum Η′ Production In B Decays, T. E. Browder, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration Aug 1998

Observation Of High Momentum Η′ Production In B Decays, T. E. Browder, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report the first observation of Bη′X transitions with high momentum η′ mesons. We observe 39.0 ± 11.6 B decay events with 2.0 < Pη′ < 2.7 GeV/c, the high momentum region where background from bc processes is suppressed. We discuss the physical interpretation of the signal, including the possibility that it is due to bsg* transitions. Given that interpretation, we find Ɓ(Bη′Xs) = [6.2 ± 1.6(stat) ± 1.3(syst) -1.5+0.0(bkg)] X 10-4 for 2.0 < Pη′ < 2.7 GeV/c.

Improved Measurement Of The Pseudoscalar Decay Constant FDS, M. Chada, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration Aug 1998

Improved Measurement Of The Pseudoscalar Decay Constant FDS, M. Chada, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We present a new determination of fDs using 5 million e+e-cc̅ events obtained with the CLEO II detector. Our value is derived from our new measured ratio Γ(Ds+ → μ+ν)/Γ(Ds+ → φ π +) = 0.173±0.023 ±0.035. Using Ɓ(Ds+ → φ π +) = (3.6±0.9)%, we extract fDs = (280±19±28±34) MeV. We compare this result with various model calculations.

Observation Of B+→ΩK+ And Search For Related B Decays Modes, T. Bergfeld, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We have searched for two-body charmless decays of B mesons to purely hadronic exclusive final states including ω or φ mesons using data collected with the CLEO II detector. With this sample of 6.6 X 106 B mesons we observe a signal for the ωK+ final state, and measure a branching fraction of Ɓ(B+→ωK+) = (1.5-0.6+0.7 ± 0.2) X 10-5. We also observe some evidence for the φK* final state, and upper limits are given for 22 other decay modes. These results provide the opportunity …

Search For Inclusive B→Sl+L-, S. Glenn, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We have searched for the effective flavor changing neutral-current decays bsl+l- using an inclusive method. We set upper limits on the branching ratios B(bse+e-) < 5.7 X 10-5, B(b+μ-) < 5.8 X 10-5 and Bbse+μ-) < 2.2 3 10-5 [at 90% confidence level (C.L.)]. Combing the dielectron and dimuon decay modes we find bsl+l-) < 4.2 X 10-5 (at 90% C.L.).

Observation Of The Radiative Decay D*+D+Γ, J. Bartelt, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration May 1998

Observation Of The Radiative Decay D*+→D+Γ, J. Bartelt, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We have observed a signal for the decay D*+D+γ at a significance of 4 standard deviations. From the measured branching ratio B(D*+D+γ)/ B(D*+D++pi0 = 0.055 ± 0.014 ± 0.010 we find B(D*+D+γ)= 0.017 ± 0.004 ± 0.003, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We also report the highest precision determination of the remaining D*+ branching fractions.

Using 3.1 fb-1 of data accumulated at the Υ(4S) by the CLEO-II detector, corresponding to 3.3×106 BB̅ pairs, we have searched for the color-suppressed B hadronic decay processes B0D0 (D*0)X0, where X0 is a light neutral meson π0, ρ0, η, η′ or ω. The D*0 mesons are reconstructed in D*0D0π0 and the D0 mesons in D0K-π+, K-π+π0 and K …

New Limits For Neutrinoless Tau Decays, D. W. Bliss, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration May 1998

New Limits For Neutrinoless Tau Decays, D. W. Bliss, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

Neutrinoless 3-prong tau lepton decays into a charged lepton and either two charged particles or one neutral meson have been searched for using 4.79 fb-1 of data collected with the CLEO II detector at Cornell Electron Storage Ring. This analysis represents an update of a previous study and the addition of six decay channels. In all channels the numbers of events found are compatible with background estimates and branching fraction upper limits are set for 28 different decay modes. These limits are either more stringent than those set previously or represent the first attempt to find these decays.

Two-Body B Meson Decays To Η And Η′: Observation Of B→Η′K, B. H. Behrens, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

In a sample of 6.6 X 106 produced B mesons we have observed decays B → η′K, with branching fractions Ɓ(B+ → η′K) = 6.5-1.4+1.5± 0.9) X 10-5 and Ɓ(B0 → η′K0) = 4.7-2.0+2.7 ± 0.9) X 10-5. We have searched with comparable sensitivity for 17 related decays to final states containing an η or η′ meson accompanied by a single particle or low-lying resonance. Our upper limits for these constrain theoretical interpretations of the B → η′K signal.

We present a measurement of the absolute branching fraction for D0K-π+ using the reconstruction of the decay chain D*+X- ν̅ where only the lepton and the low-momentum pion from the D*+ are detected. With data collected by the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have determined Ɓ(D0K-π+)= [3.81 ± 0.15(stat) ± 0.16(syst)]%.

Search For The Decay BDS1+(2536)X, M. Bishai, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration Apr 1998

Search For The Decay B→DS1+(2536)X, M. Bishai, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We have searched for the decay BDs1+ (2536)X and measured an upper limit for the inclusive branching fraction of B(BDs1+X) < 0.96% at the 90% confidence level. This limit is small compared with the total expected BD‾(*)D(*) KX rate. Assuming factorization, the Ds1+ 1 decay constant is constrained to be fDs1+ < 114 MeV at the 90% confidence level, at least 2.5 times smaller than that of Ds.

Measurements Of The Meson-Photon Transition Form Factors Of Light Pseudoscalar Mesons At Large Momentum Transfer, J. Gronberg, Kenneth A. Bloom, Cleo Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

Using the CLEO II detector, we have measured the differential cross sections for exclusive two-photon production of light pseudoscalar mesons π0, η, and η′. From our measurements we have obtained the form factors associated with the electromagnetic transitions γ*γ → meson. We have measured these form factors in the momentum transfer ranges from 1.5 to 9, 20, and 30 GeV2 for π0, η, and η′, respectively, and have made comparisons to various theoretical predictions.
