Flag : The Fault-Line Analytic Graph And Fingerprint Classification, Ching-Yu Huang Jan 1998

Flag : The Fault-Line Analytic Graph And Fingerprint Classification, Ching-Yu Huang

Dissertations

Fingerprints can be classified into millions of groups by quantitative measurements of their new representations - Fault-Line Analytic Graphs (FLAG), which describe the relationship between ridge flows and singular points. This new model is highly mathematical, therefore, human interpretation can be reduced to a minimum and the time of identification can be significantly reduced.

There are some well known features on fingerprints such as singular points, cores and deltas, which are global features which characterize the fingerprint pattern class, and minutiae which are the local features which characterize an individual fingerprint image. Singular points are more important than minutiae when …

Design And Implementation Of Ipis : An X-Window Based Image Processing Interactive System, Eduardo Morales Jan 1994

Design And Implementation Of Ipis : An X-Window Based Image Processing Interactive System, Eduardo Morales

Theses

Most of image processing systems are based on command line functions or can only display one image at a time. This is a serious inconvenience for those who need an interactive system session or want to compare two images processed by different techniques at the same time.

The system was designed with these problems in mind. It is able to display the processed image right after an operation and to display several images simultaneously, making it simple to compare techniques. The system was also created with the purpose to be used in an academic environment. Its structured design makes it …

Morphological Operations In Image Processing And Analysis, Chamim Christopher Pu Oct 1993

Morphological Operations In Image Processing And Analysis, Chamim Christopher Pu

Dissertations

Morphological operations applied in image processing and analysis are becoming increasingly important in today's technology. Morphological operations which are based on set theory, can extract object features by suitable shape (structuring elements). Morphological filters are combinations of morphological operations that transform an image into a quantitative description of its geometrical structure which based on structuring elements. Important applications of morphological operations are shape description, shape recognition, nonlinear filtering, industrial parts inspection, and medical image processing.

In this dissertation, basic morphological operations are reviewed, algorithms and theorems are presented for solving problems in distance transformation, skeletonization, recognition, and nonlinear filtering. A …
