New Borehole Breakout Derived Stress Constraints And Their Implications For Stress Heterogeneity Near High Risk Fault Systems In The Santa Barbara Channel, Southern California, Edward Harris Pritchard Oct 2018

New Borehole Breakout Derived Stress Constraints And Their Implications For Stress Heterogeneity Near High Risk Fault Systems In The Santa Barbara Channel, Southern California, Edward Harris Pritchard

LSU Master's Theses

The Santa Barbara Channel represents the offshore portion of the Ventura Basin in Southern California. Ongoing transpression related to a regional left step in the San Andreas Fault has led to the formation of E-W trending en-echelon fault systems, with both north and south dips, which accommodate varying rates of localized shortening across the basin. Recent studies have suggested that faults within the northern region of the channel could be capable of a multisegment rupture and producing a Mw 7.78.1 tsunamigenic earthquake. However, dynamic rupture models producing these results have not accounted for stress heterogeneity, which is …

Investigation Of Structure And Dynamics Of Deep Eutectic Solvent Using Infrared Spectroscopy, Yaowen Cui Jun 2018

Investigation Of Structure And Dynamics Of Deep Eutectic Solvent Using Infrared Spectroscopy, Yaowen Cui

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) are liquid mixtures prepared from solids. As a new class of green solvents, DES not only share many properties with ionic liquids, such as low volatility, conductivity, tailorable constituents, but also have some advantages over ionic liquids, like easier preparation, safe and inexpensive materials, biodegradability, low toxicity, and excellent solubility. Because of those attractive properties, DES has been studied in many scientific and engineering fields. However, compared with the great number of studies of the application, many questions about structure and dynamics of DES are unanswered. To shed light on the mystery of solvent or solvation …

Mapreduce And Heterogeneity: Power-Aware Bag-Of-Tasks, Framework Parameter Sensitivity, And Dynamic Cluster Aware Framework Configuration, Jessica L. Hartog Jan 2018

Mapreduce And Heterogeneity: Power-Aware Bag-Of-Tasks, Framework Parameter Sensitivity, And Dynamic Cluster Aware Framework Configuration, Jessica L. Hartog

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

This dissertation presents the techniques for adaptation of MapReduce frameworks to incorporate heterogeneity-aware scheduling algorithms, an inspection of cluster configurations and how they impact these scheduling algorithms, an analysis regarding how the cluster configuration and the heterogeneity-aware scheduling can work together to minimize turnaround time and/or power consumption of the cluster when executing MapReduce applications, and how these lessons can be applied more broadly to Big Data infrastructure outside of MapReduce that supports multiple Big Data frameworks simultaneously.

Heterogeneity exists in various capacities in any given cluster, from static (Physical and Platform) heterogeneity to dynamic heterogeneity (Transient Data, Transient Applications, …
