Surface And Subsurface Structures Of The Western Valley And Ridge In Tennessee And Geometry And Kinematics That Permit Reconstruction Of The Tennessee Salient, Southern Appalachians, Jennifer Kathleen Whisner

The southern and central Appalachian foreland fold-thrust belt comprises a series of orogen -scale curves that extend from Alabama to New York. One of these is the Tennessee salient, a foreland-convex curve that extends from Cartersville, Georgia, to Roanoke, Virginia. Development of a kinematic model for deformation in the salient has been hindered by a paucity of penetrative deformation in this generally low temperature, low volume-loss portion of the orogen.

Industry seismic reflection lines provide greater resolution of subsurface geometry of both the basement surface and the overlying fold-thrust belt, confirming some previous interpretations and changing others. A series of …

I study two topics in quantum information theory from the perspective of algebra and geometry. The first relates to exploring the geometry of unitary operators for small quantum systems, specifically three-level systems. Such an understanding of the space over which quantum systems evolve is central to understanding the detailed dynamics of quantum systems and to understand the correlation properties of subsystems that compose a given quantum system. The geometry of unitary operators also allows for the calculation of path-dependent phases called geometric phases. These geometric phases are central to understanding a variety of experiments. The purpose of this study was to examine the structural framework of the EBRPSS 8th Grade Mathematics Comprehensive Curriculum and to compare its effectiveness to a set of project-based lessons that I created for “Unit 4: Measurement and Geometry”. Two classes participated in this study. Pretest and Posttest scores were analyzed to determine if there was a significant advantage to using my supplements. Results of the analysis revealed that there was an advantage to using the supplements, in spite of the time shortage.
