Characterization Of Some Natural Copper Samples From The Keweenaw Peninsula Of Lake Superior Using Electron Microscopy And X-Ray Tomography Techniques, Emilie Mk Landry
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Copper corrosion is of interest to Canada’s Nuclear Waste Management Organization as it relates to their multi-barrier system for nuclear waste disposal in deep geologic repositories. Spent fuel canisters coated with a thin copper layer must persist for up to one million years. Natural copper from the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan, USA, has persisted for over 1 billion years and is here characterized to understand copper corrosion over geological time. Copper samples representing three rock types were characterized using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy techniques (energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electron backscatter diffraction), and micro-computed X-ray tomography (microCT) to establish …

Copper And Gold In Vapors And Liquids As A Function Of Hcl At 700°C And 100 Mpa, Corrie A. Lucchesi
Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations
Porphyry ore deposits are major sources of copper (Cu) and gold (Au) and form when a magmatic volatile phase (MVP) exsolves from a porphyritic intermediate to felsic melt and transports metals to surrounding country rock where they precipitate in an ore zone. There is a consensus that the chloride concentration of the MVP has a direct relationship to the concentration of Cu and Au in the MVP, but the role of dissolved HCl on Cu and Au concentrations has not been addressed. It is hypothesized that increasing HCl concentrations in the MVP will result in higher concentrations of Cu and …
An Evaluation Of The Lithologies And Geochemistry Of The Upper Beaver Deposit Of The Kirkland Lake Area, Katherine E. Feick
An Evaluation Of The Lithologies And Geochemistry Of The Upper Beaver Deposit Of The Kirkland Lake Area, Katherine E. Feick
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
The Upper Beaver Cu-Au deposit contains a unique style of mineralization in the Larder Lake and Kirkland Lake areas in terms of mineralization, alteration style, and age. This study aims to use company-provided data, supplemented with focused data collection, to evaluate what information can be attained from company-provided geochemical data. The evaluation uses a combination of hand sample, petrographic, geochemical, statistical, and microprobe analytical methods.
Lithogeochemical analyses indicated that the altered igneous host rock is calc-alkaline in composition and is most likely part of the diorite-monzonite suite. Further, exploratory data analysis of Au and Cu mineralization identified that there are …

Porphyry Copper Exploration Of The Hualapai Mountains, Mohave County, Arizona, Usa: A Multi-Faceted Approach, Patrick Kevin Meazell
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
A variety of exploration methods including geologic mapping, trace- and major-level geochemical analyses, fluid inclusion petrography, remote sensing, and SWIR clay spectroscopy were used to investigate the potential for porphyry Cu-Mo mineralization at the Wikieup prospect, in the southern Hualapai Mountains of northwestern Arizona. Aspects of the Mineral Park mine were used as an analogue to guide exploration due to the proximity and similar geology of the area.
The Hualapai Mountains are a series of northwest-trending Precambrian gneisses, schists, granitoids and amphibolites that have been cut by younger intrusive rocks. Within the Wikieup study area, the intrusive rocks include aplite …

Investigations Of Grade Control, Macarthur Mine, Yerington, Nevada: An Oxidized Porphyry Copper System, Joseph Daniel Louis Lori
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Supergene enriched, low-grade oxidized porphyry copper deposits are of great economic value. Oxidized porphyry sections are economic targets because even low-grade prospects have the potential to produce low-cost copper in an environmentally friendly fashion due to easy leachability and high recovery rates of the oxide mineralization. The MacArthur Mine, in the historic Yerington mining district of Nevada, is the focus of this study. The MacArthur is a tilted oxidized porphyry deposit, partially mined by open pit methods, hosted in the Jurassic Bear Quartz Monzonite of the Yerington batholith. The objective of the study is to define controls of copper oxide …
Application Of Copper And Zinc Isotopes To Fingerprint Metal Sources And Identify Attenuation Mechanisms In The Abandoned Waldorf Mine Area, Clear Creek County, Colorado, Suzan Aranda Luna
Application Of Copper And Zinc Isotopes To Fingerprint Metal Sources And Identify Attenuation Mechanisms In The Abandoned Waldorf Mine Area, Clear Creek County, Colorado, Suzan Aranda Luna
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Acid rock drainage (ARD) is caused by the oxidative weathering of sulfide minerals. Sulfur is oxidized by dissolved oxygen or Fe(III) and sulfate ions, metals, and protons are released into the environment. Hence, the pH of nearby water and soils often decreases in response to ARD while metal concentrations increase. Because a large part of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado are highly mineralized (i.e., the Colorado Mineral Belt), ARD is a serious problem in this region. Moreover, the many abandoned mining areas in the Rocky Mountains that include waste rock piles, tailings impoundments, and surface disturbances add to the problem …
Oxidized Copper Mineralization Along The Continental Fault Near Butte, Montana, Theodore H. Eyde
Oxidized Copper Mineralization Along The Continental Fault Near Butte, Montana, Theodore H. Eyde
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Located in the fault zone of the Continental fault near the western edge of Boulder batholith of southwestern Montana the oxidized copper deposits are developed by three open pit mines, one of which is a presently in operation. Copper has been deposited by descending cold solutions which have leached copper from the surrounding quartz monzonite and deposited within the crushed fault zone. Local high grade 'bunches' of ore occur along narrow limonite veins, remnants of primary sulfide veins which have been enriched by the descending cold solutions.

The Effect Of Ferric Iron Upon The Current Efficiency And The Deposition Of Copper In The Electrowinning Of Copper From Copper Sulphate Solutions, James L. Owings
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
In the hydrometallurgy of copper, probably the most widely used method for the precipitation of copper is by electrolysis using insoluble anodes. The process is similar in many respects to the electrolytic refining of copper; one of the main differences is the use of insoluble anodes in electrowinning as compared to the use of impure copper anodes in electrorefining. Impurities, however, are common to both processes. The nature of these impurities differ and the problem of purifying the electrolyte is also different.

A Study Of The Differential Seperation Of Galena And Sphalerite, Wilfred E. Nagel
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The smelting of complex lead ores is a difficult operation, especially when they contain considerable amounts of iron and zinc. When these ores are smelted, all of the zinc, which is valuable and well worth recovering, goes into the slag. With the advent of the flotation processes, and the ability of these processes to concentrate the lead and zinc minerals into separate products, the smelting of complex lead ores was to a great extent simplified.
