Preparation Of 1,5-Diketones By Addition Of Cyclohexanone To Chalcones Under Solvent-Free Phase Transfer Catalyst Condition, Mustafa Ceylan, Hayretti̇n Gezegen

Eight different chalcone-1,5-diketone derivatives (5a-h) were prepared by the reaction of chalcone derivatives (3a-h) with cyclohexanone under the solvent-free phase transfer catalyst condition with modarate to high yields. The mechanistic pathway of the reaction can be explained by the Michael-type addition of cyclohexanone to chalcone derivatives (3a-h).

Synthesis And Properties Of Novel Photosensitive Poly(Amide-Imide)S Containing Chalcone Moiety And Aromatic Diamines In The Main Chain, Khalil Faghihi, Zohreh Mozafari

Six new poly(amide-imide)s were synthesized by the polycondensation reaction of 1,3-bis[4,4'-bis(trimellityimido) phenyl]-2-propenone (6) with 3,3'-diamino diphenyl sulfone (7a), 4,4'-diamino diphenyl sulfone (7b), 4,4'-diamino diphenyl ether (7c), 1,5-diamino naphthalene (7d), 6-phenyl-1,3,5-triazine (7e), and 6-choloro-1,3-diazine (7f) in a medium consisting of N-methyl-2- pyrrolidone, triphenyl phosphite, calcium chloride, and pyridine. The polycondensation reaction produced a series of novel poly(amide-imide)s (8a-f) in high yield and with inherent viscosities between 0.42 and 0.62 dL/g. The resulting polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, viscosity measurement, solubility testing, thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA & DTG), FT-IR, and UV-VIS spectroscopy.

4-(Chloroacetyl)diphenyl ether (I) was synthesized from chloroacetyl chloride and diphenyl ether in the presence of AlCl_3 as catalyst in a Friedel-Crafts reaction. Subsequently, its keto oxime (II) derivative was prepared. Then 3 new substituted 4-(alkylaminoisonitrosoacetyl)diphenyl ether ligands derived from 4-(phenoxy)phenyloxylohydroxymoyl chloride and corresponding amines were synthesized. The following aromatic and aliphatic amines were used for the ligands ethanolamine, 2-amino-4-methylphenol, and 2-(aminomethyl) pyridine. Mononuclear or binuclear Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) complexes of the ligands were synthesized. Bis(p-amidobenzoic acid)-p-phenylene diacrylic acid (6) as a new monomer containing p-phenylenediacryloyl moiety was synthesized by using a 3-step reaction. Trimethyltin(IV) complex containing the carboxylate ligand 2,3-methylenedioxybenzoic acid (HL) have been synthesized and characterized in solution state by multinuclear NMR (^1H, ^{13}C and ^{119}Sn) using the noncoordinating solvent and also in solid sate by FTIR, mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography. Spectroscopic data have shown that methylenedioxy moiety has not coordinated with tin atom; instead, the coordination site is a -COO group, which is proved by spectral and XRD data. The solid state structure shows the trigonal bipyramidal geometry with a space group P2_1/c. This compound was tested for its in vitro antitumor activity.

A new orthorhombic phase of Na_2LaOPO_4 (sodium lanthanum oxyphosphate), and novel Na_2NdOPO_4 (sodium neodymium oxyphosphate), Na_2SmOPO_4 (sodium samarium oxyphosphate) were synthesized by solid state reactions of Na_2CO_3, NH_4H_2PO_4, and Ln_2O_3 (Ln = La, Nd, and Sm). The unit cell dimensions were calculated using their X-ray powder diffraction data, which were a = 13.60(1), b = 12.71(1), and c = 6.96(1) Å, a = 13.466(5), b = 12.547(6), and c = 6.932(5) Å, and a = 13.54(1), b = 12.577(8), and c = 7.047(5) Å, respectively, and the probable space group was Pmm2. Two sets of additive parameters used previously for the calculation of C-13 chemical shifts of mono and poly six-membered cycloalkanes were applied for the prediction of N-15 chemical shifts of some methyl piperidine derivatives. These sets are based on 2 principles: the p-character (substituents electronic effect) of the atom under consideration and the steric effect that reflects the spatial arrangement of the molecule. Four new azo dyes, L^1, L^2, L^3, and L^4, were prepared by linking benzaldehyde p-aminobenzoylhydrazone (3) and p-hydroxybenzaldehyede p--aminobenzoylhydrazone (4) to barbituric acid and 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid through diazo-coupling reactions. Reactions of the azo-dyes with copper chloride and bidentate ligand, 1,10-phenanthroline, produced mixed-ligand dinuclear complexes with general stoichiometry [Cu_2L(phen)_2]Cl_2 (7, 8, 9, and 10). The structures of both azo dyes and their complexes were identified by elemental analyses, FT-IR, ^1H-NMR, UV-VIS, magnetic susceptibility, and mass spectral data.

A novel hybrid ion exchange material, Zirconium-hydroxy ethylidene diphosphonate [ZrHEDP], of the class of tetravalent metal acid (TMA) salts has been synthesized by the sol-gel technique. The material was characterized with elemental analysis (ICP-AES), thermal analysis (TGA, DSC), and FT-IR and X-ray diffraction studies. The chemical resistivity of the material in various media was evaluated. ZrHEDP was further investigated for its possible use as an ion exchanger. Cationic hydrogels from a positively charged monomer, (3-Acrylamidopropyl)-trimethylammonium chloride (APTMACl), were synthesized as bulk, and micro- and nano-sizes. These hydrogels were utilized to remove contaminants such as food dyes and an environmentally toxic metal, arsenic. The micro- and nanohydrogels were dispersed in another hydrogel network to design a semi-interpenetrating network (semi-IPN) which was shown to visualize the particles that can be used for absorption purposes. The micron-sized cationic hydrogel particles were very effective in the removal of arsenic from an aqueous environment- 96% of the arsenic was removed in less than 10 min from a 55-ppm aqueous stock solution. N-Substituted pyridine carboxamide oximes (2) were obtained from the reactions of pyridine hydroxamic acid chloride hydrochlorides (1) with primary amines. The reactions of carboxamide oximes with chloroacetyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine gave the corresponding 3,4-disubstituted-1,2,4-oxadiazin-5-ones (3), which on treatment with P_2S_5 gave in moderate yielded the corresponding 3,4-disubstituted-1,2,4-oxadiazin-5-thiones (4). The reaction of pyridine carboxamide oximes with \alpha-aminoacid ester led to the formation of 3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-oxadiazin-6-ones (5) in moderate yields. The structures of the prepared compound were evaluated by spectroscopy. Some of the representatives of 3,4-disubstituted-1,2,4- oxadiazin-5-ones, thiones, and 3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-oxadiazin-6-ones were screened for antibacterial activity using disc diffusion. Methane cracking has the potential to produce high purity, carbon monoxide-free hydrogen suitable for application in PEM fuel cells. The 2 products of the reaction are molecular hydrogen and solid carbon. The carbon appears in the form of carbon filaments whose growth is hindered by carbon encapsulation leading to total deactivation of the catalyst. Several attempts have been made to regenerate the catalyst, mainly by gasifying the carbon filament in air or steam. Commercially available zinc perchlorate hexahydrate [Zn(ClO_4)_2.6H_2O] was found to be a highly effective catalyst for the transesterification of malonic esters with alcohols. The treatment of methyl-, ethyl-, or \alpha-substituted malonic esters with primary or secondary alcohols in the presence of a catalytic amount of zinc perchlorate results in good to high yields of the corresponding esters (68%-99%). Mono-transesterification products are also obtained in moderate to good yields (22%-42%). New organotin(IV) complexes with 2-[(2',6'-diethylphenylamido)] benzoic acid (HL^1) and 3-[(2',6' -diethylphenylamido)]propanoic acid (HL^2) were synthesized by the reaction of di- and triorganotin salts in the presence of triethylamine as base or dioctyltin oxide using a Dean and Stark trap for the removal of azeotropic water. All complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR, and mass spectral studies, and proof that tin-ligand coordination involves only the carboxylate group and complexes show hexa-coordinated geometry in solid state. 4(5)-Chloro-imidazole-5(4)-carboxaldehyde derivatives are important precursors for the preparation of biologically active compounds. We developed a simple, novel, and efficient method for the synthesis of these compounds. The chemistry described is amenable to large-scale use and is flexible enough to allow the preparation of analogs.

Some new 4-oxo-4H-chromone derivatives bearing nitrogen heterocyclic systems were achieved by treatment of 3-[(4-aminophenylimino) methyl]-6-chloro-4-oxo-4H-chromene (2) with some aldehydes, cyclic oxygen, and halogen compounds, followed by heterocyclization. Significant antifungal activities were observed for some of the prepared compounds. Structures of all products were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, ^1H-NMR, and mass spectra.

The oxidative cyclisation of 3-oxopropanenitriles 1a-g with alkenes 2a-c containing 2-thienyl group by manganese(III) acetate was studied. Treatment of 3-oxopropanenitriles 1a-d with 2-[(E)-2-phenylvinyl] thiophene 2a gave 4-phenyl-5-(2-thienyl)-4,5-dihydrofuran-3-carbonitriles 3a-d in moderate yields (52%-60%). 5-(2-thienyl) substituted 4,5-dihydrofuran-3-carbonitriles 3e-i were obtained by the oxidative cyclisation of these 3-oxopropanenitriles with 2-[(E)-1-methyl-2- phenylvinyl]thiophene 2b in good yields (54%-68%). In addition, the reactions of 2-(1-phenylvinyl)thiophene 2c with various 3-oxopropanenitriles produced 4,5-dihydrofurans 3j-n containing heterocycle in 77%-91% yields.

A method was developed for preconcentration of cadmium with zinc-piperazinedithiocarbamate (ZnPDC) in edible oils and its determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometer (FAAS). The preconcentration method is based on the adsorption of the Cd(II) on to ZnPDC and the elution of them with mercury(II) nitrate. The accuracy of the method was tested with standard reference material (CONOSTAN S-21) and Cd added samples. Under optimum conditions, the recovery and the detection limit for cadmium were 99.67% (\pm 0.67) and 0.028 mg/L, respectively. A series of novel di-[3(thiophen-2-yl-methyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H- [1,2,4]triazole-5-one-4yl]n-alkanes (2a-h) were obtained by the reaction of N'-1-ethoxy-2-thiophen-2-yl-ethylydene hydrazino carboxylic acid ethyl ester (1) and diamines. Compound 3 was reacted with aldehydes and 4-(arylidene-amino)-3-thiophen-2-yl-methyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-[1,2,4] triazole-5-ones (4, 5, and 8) with Schiff base character were synthesized. (4-(arylidene-amino)-5-oxo-3-thiophen-2-yl-methyl-4,5- dihydro-1H-[1,2,4]triazole-1-yl)-acetic acid ethyl esters (6, 7, and 9) were obtained by the reaction of 4-(arylidene-amino)-3-thiophen-2-yl- methyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-[1,2,4]triazole-5-ones (4, 5, and 8) and ethyl bromoacetate. An HPLC-ESI/MS method that enables fast detection and identification of iridoid glycosides is described. Eleven iridoid glycosides known to occur in the genus Lamium-lamalbide, sesamoside, 6-\beta-OH ipolamiide, shanzhiside methyl ester, dehydropenstemoside, barlerin (= 8-O-acetylshanzhiside methyl ester), 6-O-syringyl-8-O- acetylshanzhiside methyl ester, lamerioside, lamiide, eriobioside, and ipolamiide, were identified by means of their retention time and ESI/MS data. Some 3(2H)-pyridazinone and 1(2H)-phthalazinone derivatives were synthesized. The structures of these new compounds were confirmed by IR, ^1H-NMR, mass spectrum, and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activity against various gram-positive and gram-negative strains of bacteria and their clinical isolates and for their antimycobacterial activity against M. tuberculosis H37Rv. The results showed that the synthesized compounds were generally active against B. subtilis and its clinical isolate. Among the target compounds, compound 14c exhibited the best antibacterial activity, with a MIC value of 15.62 \mu g/mL against B. subtilis. Compound 15e had the highest antimycobacterial activity.

2-Nitro-N-(4-nitrophenyl)benzamide was synthesized and characterized by spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The crystal structure was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group, P 2_12_12_1, with unit cell dimensions a = 8.9443(10) Å, b = 9.7147(11) Å, and c = 13.8016(16) Å. The dihedral angle between the 2 aromatic rings is 82.32(4)^{\circ}. The N2 and N3 nitro groups are oriented with respect to their attached phenyl rings at dihedral angles of 1.97(3)^{\circ} and 15.73(3)^{\circ}, respectively. The kinetics of ruthenium(III)-catalyzed oxidation of TREN, i.e. tris(2-amino ethyl)amine(3-hydrochloride) by an outer sphere electron transfer oxidant, potassium hexacyanoferrate(III), was investigated spectrophotometrically in aqueous alkaline medium. The extent of the reaction was followed by registering a decrease in absorbance at 420 nm (\lambda_{max} of Fe(CN)_6^{3-}) due to its consumption as a function of [OH^-], ionic strength, [Fe(CN)_6^{3-}], [TREN], and temperature by varying only one variable at a time and keeping all other variables constant. All solid-state contact poly vinyl chloride (PVC) membrane potassium-selective electrode has been developed. The construction of the ion selective electrode membrane was organized using ionophore 4,4'-bis[4''-phenoxy(15-crown-5) methyl]benzyl in PVC cocktail. The potentiometric performance characteristics of the electrode were investigated by a computerized system. The electrode was found highly selective to K^+ ions over a wide variety of other cations. The electrode almost exhibited a Nernstian response (\ge 55 (\pm15) mV/decade of K activity) to K^+ within the concentration range 1.5 x 10^{-1} - 1.0 \times 10^{-5} M. In this study, Bacillus mojavensis ComX_{(RO-B-2)} pheromone gene was cloned to pGEMT-Easy vector based on TA cloning of PCR products. The gene encoding 11 amino acid peptides of Bacillus mojavensis RO-B-2 strain ComX pheromone (GLQIYTNWVPS) was obtained by PCR amplification of 2 primers complementary to each other at their 3' end. 3-Alkyl(Aryl)-4-amino-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones (2) reacted with di-(3-formylphenyl) isophthalate (3) and di-(3-formylphenyl) terephthalate (6) to afford the corresponding 6 novel di-[3-(3-alkyl/aryl-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-one-4-yl)- azomethinphenyl] isophthalates (4) and 6 novel di-[3-(3-alkyl/aryl-4,5- dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-one-4-yl)-azomethinphenyl] terephthalates (7), respectively. The acetylation reactions of compounds 4 and 7 were investigated, and 5 and 8 type compounds were obtained, respectively.
