Cyclotron Resonance In Graphene Heterostructurescyclotron Resonance In Graphene Heterostructures, Billy Jordan Russell

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

We present observations of cyclotron resonance in graphene Van der Waals heterostructure devices. Such devices provide dramatic improvements in sample quality and allow for ad- vanced electronic control, opening windows on previously inaccessible physics. The design and construction of a dedicated system for the measurement of electronic transport and infrared magnetospectroscopy in microscopic samples of atomically thin materials at cryogenic temperatures is presented. In high-mobility encapsulated monolayer graphene, electron- electron interaction effects are unambiguously observed to impact the interband cyclotron resonance as the Landau level filling factor is varied in a quantizing magnetic field. Additionally, a splitting of transitions involving …

Effects Of Regolith Properties On Uv/Vis Spectra And Implications For Lunar Remote Sensing, Ecaterina Ioana Coman Aug 2017

Effects Of Regolith Properties On Uv/Vis Spectra And Implications For Lunar Remote Sensing, Ecaterina Ioana Coman

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Lunar regolith chemistry, mineralogy, various maturation factors, and grain size dominate the reflectance of the lunar surface at ultraviolet (UV) to visible (VIS) wavelengths. These regolith properties leave unique fingerprints on reflectance spectra in the form of varied spectral shapes, reflectance intensity values, and absorption bands. With the addition of returned lunar soils from the Apollo and Luna missions as ground truth, these spectral fingerprints can be used to derive maps of global lunar chemistry or mineralogy to analyze the range of basalt types on the Moon, their spatial distribution, and source regions for clues to lunar formation history and …

Photoelectron Imaging Of Iodide Centered Alkyl Halide Cluster Anions, Joshua S. Lasinski Oct 2013

Photoelectron Imaging Of Iodide Centered Alkyl Halide Cluster Anions, Joshua S. Lasinski

All Theses and Dissertations (ETDs)

This dissertation presents results from cluster anion photodetachment experiments of the solvated iodide anion as a means of investigating electron molecule interaction. Due to the localization of the excess charge on the iodine atom, these experiments proceed analogously to electron scattering experiments, in that exposure to sufficient photon energy detaches the electron, which may or may not interact with the target molecule before being detected. Such interactions are related to temporary electron capture into the σ* orbital of the target molecule.

This dissertation begins with an analysis of the previously published I−·CH3X: X = I, Br, Cl) photodetachment results. These …

A Study On The Structure And Photodetachment Dynamics Of Copper Based Molecular Anions Using Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Nicholas Stephen Holtgrewe Aug 2013

A Study On The Structure And Photodetachment Dynamics Of Copper Based Molecular Anions Using Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Nicholas Stephen Holtgrewe

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation represents a study of the effects of electron molecule interactions in the detachment and dissociation dynamics of copper based molecular anions. Results are presented on the photodetachment of small copper oxide CuOn (n = 1, 2) and copper fluoride CuF n (n = 1, 2) molecular anions. Effects of different resonances are explored using the photoelectron angular distributions (PADs) and the relative intensity variations in vibrational channel cross sections. The specific resonances studied include dipole bound resonances, in which the electric dipole moment of the neutral molecule captures the outgoing electron, and electronic Feshbach resonances, …
