Decoupled-Dfig Fault Ride-Through Strategy For Enhanced Stability Performance During Grid Faults, Lasantha G. Meegahapola, Damian Flynn, Tim Littler

This paper proposes a decoupled fault ride-through strategy for a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) to enhance network stability during grid disturbances. The decoupled operation proposes that a DFIG operates as an induction generator (IG) with the converter unit acting as a reactive power source during a fault condition. The transition power characteristics of the DFIG have been analyzed to derive the capability of the proposed strategy under various system conditions. The optimal crowbar resistance is obtained to exploit the maximum power capability from the DFIG during decoupled operation. The methods have been established to ensure proper coordination between the …

The Electrical Performance Of Modern Compact Fluorescent Lamps, Sean T. Elphick, Philip Ciufo, Sarath Perera Jan 2010

The Electrical Performance Of Modern Compact Fluorescent Lamps, Sean T. Elphick, Philip Ciufo, Sarath Perera

Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) are highly non-linear devices which are likely to experience very high growth in penetration levels, especially in domestic environments, in Australia over the next 2 – 3 years. This will occur due to the decision taken by the Australian Federal Government to ban the sale of incandescent light globes after 2009 as measures towards meeting the needs for demand side management and climate change abatement. While CFL technology has been in existence since the late 1980s penetration levels are now increasing to a point where the total CFL load cannot be considered negligible compared to other …

Preparation, Characterization, And Electrochemical Performance Of Li2cusno4 And Li2cusnsio6 Electrodes For Lithium Batteries, Atef Y. Shenouda, Hua-Kun Liu Jan 2010

Preparation, Characterization, And Electrochemical Performance Of Li2cusno4 And Li2cusnsio6 Electrodes For Lithium Batteries, Atef Y. Shenouda, Hua-Kun Liu

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Lithium copper tin silicon oxide was prepared from their precursor compounds using Brij surfactant and different sources of Si such as SiO2, SiC, and Si3N4. A hydrothermal autoclave method was used in the first stage of the preparation. X-ray diffraction characterization revealed that the crystal structures of these compounds were tetragonal. Scanning electron microscope investigation showed that the particle size morphology of Li2CuSnSiO6 is larger than that of Li2CuSnO4. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy explained that the cell prepared from the Li2CuSnSiO6 electrode using Si3 …

Citrate Synthase Activity Does Not Account For Age-Related Differences In Maximum Aerobic Performance In House Sparrows (Passer Domesticus), William A. Buttemer, C Bech, Mark A. Chappell Jan 2010

Citrate Synthase Activity Does Not Account For Age-Related Differences In Maximum Aerobic Performance In House Sparrows (Passer Domesticus), William A. Buttemer, C Bech, Mark A. Chappell

We measured basal (BMR) and peak metabolic rates (PMR) in juvenile and adult House Sparrows. Juvenile birds had significantly higher BMR, but lower PMR than adult birds, despite having statistically indistinguishable body masses. We then evaluated the relation between PMR and masses of central and peripheral organs and found that pectoral muscle mass best correlated with PMR in both groups, accounting for about 35% of the variation in PMR. Because citrate synthase (CS) has such major importance in affecting the first committed step in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, we characterized CS activity levels In extracted muscles to see if this …
