A magnetic monopole may be detected by its deflection in an electric field or by the character of the ionization it produces. The electric deflection experiment may be performed in a helium bubble chamber where helical (or spiral) tracks whose axes are parallel to the D-lines would be certain evidence for the discovery of the monopole. Previous studies of the ionization have emphasized that the Bragg tail would be missing from a monopole track, as compared to a charged particle. This conclusion must be modified because of the thin-down of tracks of heavy nuclei. The tracks of heavy nuclei …

A hardness tester, especially adapted for grain, was constructed by modifying a commercial portable soft metal tester known as the Barcol Impressor. A preloaded stylus is forced into grain sections prepared by means of a microtome. The displacement of the stylus, measured by a dial micrometer, is used as a hardness index. This has been related to the Vickers diamond pyramid hardness which is a standard metallurgical test. A number of hardness measurements may be made on a single transverse kernel section. The tester may be used for all wheat varieties. Significant variations in hardness within a single wheat kernel …

One important form of wetlands habitat in Nebraska is the “Fresh-water Basins”; their importance extends to both waterfowl and upland game. The fresh-water basins are located primarily in south-central Nebraska. They are closed drainages, usually from one to 40 acres but ranging up to 1,000 acres, formed in the gently rolling loess plains. Soils are silt loam and the somewhat impervious soils in flat or depressed position receive and retain the largest amounts of water. This caused leaching and concentration of clay in the subsoil forming a soil type peculiar to these areas known as "Scott silt-loam," a heavy clay-loam …

This paper is a revision of the generic nomenclature of a few radiolarian genera whose species are good zone and index fossils. The following genera are revised more or less extensively: Sethamphorus, Sethocephala, Dictyocephalus, Theocampe, and Tricolocampe. The following names are reduced to synonomy: Dictyocryphalus, Cryptocephalus, Dictyoprora (1882), Platycryphalus, Dictyoprora (1887), Theocamptra, Theocampana, Tricolocampium, Tricolocamptra, and Theocampula. Diabolocampe is described as a new genus.

The Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Colorado and New Mexico are, geologically speaking, relatively unknown. The equivocal nature of our knowledge of the range was a primary reason for studying a portion of it in some detail. Most of the previous studies have been concerned with the northern part of the range in Colorado, in the general area between Salida and La Veta Pass. This work has indicated that the complicated structure which characterizes the northern part of the range becomes simpler to the south. Therefore, a second objective of the current study has been to test this hypothesis. Thirdly, …
