South Yarding Focus Catchment Report, A Hollick
Resource management technical reports
This report provides a record of the activities carried out by the South Yarding Focus Support Team and Catchment Group. It covers the results of investigations and summarises the group's catchment plan of South Yarding, Western Australia, based on the best available information on soils, groundwater hydrology, surface water control, alternative crops and pastures and revegetation options.
Wetland Basins For Saline Drainage Water Disposal Bodallin And Elachbutting Catchments, Eastern Wheatbelt, Western Australia, P De Broekert, N Coles
Wetland Basins For Saline Drainage Water Disposal Bodallin And Elachbutting Catchments, Eastern Wheatbelt, Western Australia, P De Broekert, N Coles
Resource management technical reports
This report provides an assessment of two large deep drainage schemes within the lower reaches of the Bodallin and Elachbutting Catchments nearby Merredin in Western Australia, wherein groups of isolated wetland basins have been utilised for evaporative saline drainage water disposal. In both cases, the storage capacity of the basins has been exceeded, leading to flooding and death of the surrounding native vegetation.
Lower Yilgarn Catchment Appraisal 2003, D G. Cummins
Lower Yilgarn Catchment Appraisal 2003, D G. Cummins
Resource management technical reports
This report summarises current information on risks and impacts to agricultural production and natural resources within the Lower Yilgarn Catchment. It also identifies suitable options to manage such risks. The report has been divided into three sections : the natural resource base, the catchment risks and management options and impacts. Rapid Catchment Appraisal aims to document salinity risk and management options by addressing all threats to the natural resource base.
Groundwater Trends In The Central Agricultural Region, S Ghauri
Groundwater Trends In The Central Agricultural Region, S Ghauri
Resource management technical reports
This report provides an update of groundwater data and interpretation for each of the hydrozones of the central agricultural region in Western Australia.
Groundwater Study Of The Narrogin Townsite, Edward K. Crossley
Groundwater Study Of The Narrogin Townsite, Edward K. Crossley
Resource management technical reports
A groundwater study was carried out in the townsite of Narrogin, Western Australia, in April 2002. The study consisted of a drilling program to install a network of groundwater monitoring bores. This report contains background information for the town and its catchment, the climatic, geological and hydrogeological investigations, and conclusions on the town's salinity risk and recommendations for improved water management.
Narrogin Townsite Test Pumping Results 2003, Louise Hopgood
Narrogin Townsite Test Pumping Results 2003, Louise Hopgood
Resource management technical reports
Test pumping of a production bore in Narrogin took place for 24 hours in August 2003. Data generated by the test pumping was analysed along with groundwater monitoring, climate and geological data. Laboratory analyses of water samples from the production bore indicate very high levels of salinity and hardness which may lead to severe scaling and corrosion of pumps, pipes and pipe fittings.
Infill Groundwater Study Of The Quairading Townsite, S Ghauri
Infill Groundwater Study Of The Quairading Townsite, S Ghauri
Resource management technical reports
An infill groundwater study of Quairading in Western Australia was carried out as part of the Rural Towns Program Community Bores Project to clarify reasons for localised moisture accumulation in buildings.
Groundwater Study Of The York Townsite, Edward K. Crossley, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia. Rural Towns Program
Groundwater Study Of The York Townsite, Edward K. Crossley, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia. Rural Towns Program
Resource management technical reports
A groundwater study was carried out in the townsite of York in April-May 2002. The prupose was to collect information on local groundwater systems that could be used to develop a salinity management strategy. The study included a driling program, which established a network of monitoring bores. Seventy-seven monitoring bores were installed at 32 sites as well as a production bore for testing aquifer properties.
Bremer-Gairdner Catchment Appraisal Report 2003, Tim D. Overheu
Bremer-Gairdner Catchment Appraisal Report 2003, Tim D. Overheu
Resource management technical reports
Assessment of the condition and future risks to agricultural and natural resources within the Bremer-Gairdner region in Western Australia using the Rapid Catchment Appraisal. Details include climate, geology, soil-landscape information, hydrology, waterways, wetlands and estuaries, natural vegetation, land use and infrastructure, agricultural production, demographics; soil degredation risks, hydrology risks, farming system impacts, vegetation condition and risks, infrastructure assets; and management options.
Merredin Townsite Groundwater Pumping And Desalination Pilot Project, Rosemary Nott, Mark Pridham, Juana Roe, Jeff Ibbott, Alan Leeson, A Leeson
Merredin Townsite Groundwater Pumping And Desalination Pilot Project, Rosemary Nott, Mark Pridham, Juana Roe, Jeff Ibbott, Alan Leeson, A Leeson
Resource management technical reports
Townsite salinity affects more than 40 towns in the WA wheatbelt. Waterlogging and salinity are responsible for damamge to townsite infrastructure. Through groundwater pumping and desalination, the State Salinity Council (now the Natural Resource Management Council) granted Merredin the the chance to prevent further damage to the townsite by funding this project.
Kellerberrin Townsite Test Pumping Results 2003, Louise Hopgood
Kellerberrin Townsite Test Pumping Results 2003, Louise Hopgood
Resource management technical reports
A production bore in Kellerberrin, Western Australia, was test pumped for 24 hours in August 2003. Data generated by the pumping were analysed with groundwater monitoring, climate and geological data. Laboratory analyses of water samples from the production bore indicate a low pH and very high levels of salinity, hardness, sodium, chloride, iron, sulphate, aluminium and manganese. This is likely to lead to scaling, blockages, staining and/or corrosion of pumps, pipes and pipe fittings.
Groundwater Investigation Buntine-Marchagee Natural Diversity Recovery Catchment, Russell John Speed, M Strelein
Groundwater Investigation Buntine-Marchagee Natural Diversity Recovery Catchment, Russell John Speed, M Strelein
Resource management technical reports
A groundwater investigation was initiated in the Buntine-Marchagee Natural Diversity Recovery Catchment 200 kms north-east of Perth, Western Australia in 2002. The investigation aimed to install a regional groundwater monitoring network and characterise the regolith throughout the catchment. Drill site selection was based on establishing a series of transects to enable construction of hydrogeological cross-sections to enhance conceptual understanding of the catchment.

Evaporation Basin Guidelines For Disposal Of Saline Water, Jda Consultant Hydrologists, Edward Hauck
Agriculture reports
The purpose of this guideline is to provide information and criteria for evaporation basin planning, design, construction, monitoring, and maintenance for purposes of disposal of water and storage of disposed salts in dryland agricultural areas of Western Australia. The application of the guidelines will assist in the management of saline discharge and the protection of natural resources. The guidelines have been tailored specifically for saline evaporation disposal sites located in the wheatbelt areas of Western Australia.
