The Arctic region, undergoing significant environmental changes due to rapid warming, faces alterations in air temperatures, melting permafrost, declining sea ice, and changes in riverine inputs. These shifts have profound implications for Arctic coastal ecology and biogeochemical cycles. This study, focusing on Alaska's North Slope, explores the influence of freshwater fluxes on water optical properties, vital for accurate satellite remote sensing interpretations. Our approach combined field measurements, existing data, and satellite remote sensing retrievals to identify biogeochemical gradients and their seasonal and interannual variations. Icy planetesimals are significant objects of study for meteoritics, planetary science, and astrobiology due to their connections to the origins of life and liquid water on Earth. An existing closed system aqueous alteration model was adapted to simulate several scenarios involving early Solar System geologic processes occurring in an icy planetesimal interior. The model described in this work has been developed not only to test the validity of constraints currently thought to apply to CM1 parent bodies, but to directly compare the implications of these constraints for the isotopic composition and the modal mineralogy of carbonaceous chondrites. Running hydrodynamic models interactively allows both visual exploration and change of model state during simulation. One of the main characteristics of an interactive model is that it should provide immediate feedback to the user, for example respond to changes in model state or view settings. The article reviews the modelling of District Metered Areas (DMAs) with relatively high leakage rate. As a generally recognised approach in modelling of leakage does not exist, modelling of leakage by enginners and other researchers usually takes place by dividing the whole leakage rate evenly to all available nodes of the model. E. Coli is widely used as an indicator organism to assess the risk of pathogenic bacteria in water bodies. Due to their strong association with suspended and bed sediments, the fate and transport of micro-organisms in water bodies is strongly controlled by sediment dynamics. It has been shown that bed sediments can contain orders of magnitude larger pathogen concentration than the water column and these sediment-associated bacteria can be released into the water column as a result of high flow velocities that cause sediment resuspension. A hybrid linear model for real-time optimization-based control of a combined sewer network has been developed to be used for the minimization of pollution during storm events. The model takes into account delays and attenuation in sewers together with piecewise linear approximations for flow over weirs, overflows in junctions and flow re-entering the network after overflows. Using the proposed model, an Optimal Control Problem (OCP) is formulated, which can be efficiently solved by means of a mixed integer linear or quadratic programming problem. The Modular System for Shelves and Coasts (MOSSCO) integrates physical, biological, chemical and geological models of shelves and coasts for the North Sea and Baltic Sea in an exchangeable way. Real-time hydraulic and water quality modeling involves the modification of the EPS network model every few minutes to reflect the SCADA data, and this paper shares how this type of real-time modeling framework, HydroTrek, was built on top of the EPS foundation provided by the EPANET toolkit. The real-life applications of HydroTrek posed some interesting modeling challenges when the hydraulic time-step was reduced to match the SCADA time-step of one to five minutes.
