Signatures Of Black Holes, Alexandra B. Chanson
Signatures Of Black Holes, Alexandra B. Chanson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
In this defense I will describes three approaches to learn more about the relationship between the dynamics of black-holes and the distinctive signatures of a black hole systems: infinitesimal changes in the black hole background producing field excitations relating new fundamental black hole thermodynamic relations, mechanisms powering relativistic black hole jets and spontaneous symmetry breaking in five space-time dimensions, and physical signatures of black hole event horizons as conformal field theory duals (in both d=4,5 dimensional axisymmetric spacetimes).
Beyond The Standard Models Of Particle Physics And Cosmology, Gabriele Rigo
Beyond The Standard Models Of Particle Physics And Cosmology, Gabriele Rigo
Dissertations - ALL
Despite their numerous successes both from the theoretical and experimental point of view, conceptual and observational evidence suggests the Standard Models of Particle Physics and Cosmology should be considered incomplete theories, reliable only within their well-defined regime of validity. This dissertation covers various possible extensions of those models from the theoretical, phenomenological and model-building perspective. The topics analyzed range from extra-dimensional approaches to the hierarchy problem, to the AdS/CFT description of perturbative anomaly inflow, and new probes of vacuum energy in neutron stars and gravitational waves.

Universal Constraints On 2d Cfts And 3d Gravity, Joshua D. Qualls
Universal Constraints On 2d Cfts And 3d Gravity, Joshua D. Qualls
Theses and Dissertations--Physics and Astronomy
We study constraints imposed on a general unitary two-dimensional conformal field theory by modular invariance. We begin with a review of previous bounds on the conformal dimension Delta1 of the lowest primary operator assuming unitarity, a discrete spectrum, modular invariance, cL, cR > 1, and no extended chiral algebra. We then obtain bounds on the conformal dimensions Delta2, Delta3 using no additional assumptions. We also show that in order to find a bound for Delta4 or higher Deltan, we need to assume a larger minimum value for ctot that grows …
Time-Dependent Systems And Chaos In String Theory, Archisman Ghosh
Time-Dependent Systems And Chaos In String Theory, Archisman Ghosh
Theses and Dissertations--Physics and Astronomy
One of the phenomenal results emerging from string theory is the AdS/CFT correspondence or gauge-gravity duality: In certain cases a theory of gravity is equivalent to a "dual" gauge theory, very similar to the one describing non-gravitational interactions of fundamental subatomic particles. A difficult problem on one side can be mapped to a simpler and solvable problem on the other side using this correspondence. Thus one of the theories can be understood better using the other.
The mapping between theories of gravity and gauge theories has led to new approaches to building models of particle physics from string …
