Journal of Electrochemistry

A novel cyanide-free gold sulfite process is introduced in this paper. In the bath, chloauric acid was directly employed as the main salt, and hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid (HEDP) was used as the stabilizer and coating grain refiner. The bath stability, the gold coating morphology and the mechanism of gold electrodeposition were studied in detail. The results showed that HEDP could significantly improve the bath stability. Moreover, the grains of the gold coating obtained from the gold sulfite bath without HEDP was rod-like, which grew gradually with the increasing of the deposition time, resulting in that the appearance of the coating …

Nano-array structure possesses promising prospect in power supply, optical device and electronic manufacturing. In this paper, a black nickel nano-cone array was prepared on a flexible substrate by galvanostatic deposition and the corresponding factors involved in the fabrication of nickel nano-cone array was explored. Experimental results showed that a large current density and low main salt concentration were not favored to the formation of cone nickel structure. It was also found that ammonium chloride, as the crystal modifier, was crucial to deposit the uniform nano-cone array. Three-dimensional (3D) nanostructural Flower-like cobalt sulfide (CoS) on flexible self-supporting graphene tape electrode (GTE) with remarkably electrocatalytic activity toward glucose was successfully prepared by electrodeposition. Structural characterizations revealed that the electrodeposited CoS was highly dispersed on GTE as an active material. The fabricated binder-free and self-standing CoS/GTE shows a good linear response in the range of 0.025 ~ 1.0 mmol·L-1, reaching a high glucose sensitivity value of 323.3 μA·(mmol·L -1)-1·cm-2 and a low detection limit of 8.5 μmol·L -1 (S/N = 3). Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used to study the electrodeposition mechanism of trivalent chromium on a copper electrode in the novel sulphate electrolyte for thick trivalent chromium plating. In order to investigate the effects of temperature on the nucleation and growth of lead dioxide (PbO2), the in situ electrochemical depositions of PbO2 were carried out on the glassy carbon electrode at different temperatures, namely, 25℃,35℃, 45℃, 55℃, and 65℃.The cyclic voltammetric curves, the time-current and the time-potential curves,SEM images and XRD patterns of the PbO2 coatings deposited at different temperatures were obtained. The electrochemical reduction of trivalent chromium ion (Cr3+) to Cr in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([BMIM]OAc)-H2O mixed electrolyte was investigated. The cyclic voltammograms showed that the electroreduction of Cr3+ in the mixed electrolyte occurred in a two-step process, namely, Cr3+ + e → Cr2+ and Cr2+ + 2e→ Cr0, controlled by the diffusion of Cr3+ to the electrode. Direct formic acid fuel fuels (DFAFCs) are promising energy source for portable electronic devices. Palladium (Pd) is more active than platinum (Pt) for the formic acid electrooxidation. With the choline chloride/urea deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as the medium, the olive-like lanthanum particles with uniform shape and size were successfully prepared through a potentiostatic deposition method. The prepared samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Electrodeposition of aluminium-magnesium alloys have been carried out onto platinum and copper cathodes from Lewis acidic aluminium(III) chloride-1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid containing magnesium(II) chloride by constant current and constant potential methods at room temperature. Magnesium content in the deposited alloy increases with increasing MgCl2 concentration in the ionic liquid and with increasing cathodic current density. Two-dimensional flower-like Pt nanostructures (2D FPNs) were fabricated on glassy carbon substrates by galvanostatical electrochemical technique. The electrolyte was the HAuCl4 + HClO4 aqueous solution without addition of any structure-directing organic reagent, which made as-prepared Pt nanostructures cleaner, exhibiting much higher reactivity. Scanning electron microscopic images revealed that 2D FPNs were spherical Pt nano-flowers constructed by the smallest building blocks, nano-leaves. The number density of spherical Pt nano-flowers can be tuned by controlling the electrodeposition time. The electrodeposition of copper from a solution containing copper chloride in either an ethylene glycol (EG)-choline chloride based or a urea-choline chloride based ionic liquid has been carried out onto a steel cathode by constant current and constant potential methods at room temperature. The influences of various experimental conditions on electrodeposition and the morphology of the deposited layers have been investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Pt-Ni and Pd-Ni films were successfully prepared on Ti substrates by electrodeposition method. The porous Pt-Ni nanoflakes appeared to be uniform with the thickness of the slices about 10 ~ 20 nm. The porous Pd-Ni nanoparticles with a flower shape appeared to be uniform with the diameters of 50 ~ 60 nm. The XRD patterns also indicated that the Pd-Ni and Pt-Ni nanostructures have the poor crystallinity. The onset potentials of ethanol oxidation were negatively shifted to –0.74 V on Pt-Ni electrodes and –0.71 V on Pd-Ni electrodes, respectively. Ti-base manganese dioxide (Ti/MnO2) electrode was prepared by anodically electrodeposition technology in this paper. The structure of the electrode, the microstructure of the electrode surface and the element composition of the electrode were analyzed by XRD, SEM and EDS. The preparation process parameters of the electrode were studied in detail with the help of the V~logi curve and phenol degradation curve. The PbO2 anodes were prepared on platinum from fluoroborate media and its doped solutions by electrodeposition technique.Elecchemical and pysicochemical properties of these PbO2 films were studied by cyclic voltammetry methods,XRD and SEM.The results showed that the presence of BF4-increased PbO2 electrodeposition rate;the prepared lead dioxide consisted of β-PbO2;the preferential orientation of crystals and surface morphology were affected a lot by doping F-and Fe3+.The FB/F-Fe-PbO2 electrode exhibited regular-shaped layers with compact morphology.Furthermore,increasing current density also change the preferential orientation of PbO2 crystals.

The hybrid modified electrodes were obtained by electrochemical deposition of copper-cobalt hexacyanoferrate(CuCoHCF) /multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) on the surface of glassy carbon electrode.The effects of the amount of MWCNTs and composition of electrolyte on the properties of modified electrode had been researched.The copper cobalt hexacyanoferrate-MWCNTs modified electrodes show excellent electrochemical properties compared with that modified only copper-cobalt hexacyanoferrate.The CuCoHCF-MWCNTs/GCE exhibits obvious electrocatalytic activity towards oxidation of hydrogen peroxide.The oxidation peak current increased linearly with the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the range of 3.16 × 10-5 ~ 2.92 × 10-3 mol· L-1.The linear equation is given up ip(μA) = 0.5529 + …

The nanoporous Ti-based TiO2 films electrodes modified with Pb particles(Pb/nanoTiO2) were prepared by using anodization and potentiostatic electro-deposition.The optimum deposition conditions were determined by comparing with various deposition potentials and time.The SEM analyses indicated that the TiO2 films were homogeneous nanoporous structure,and the Pb particles well dispersed on the TiO2 films.The L-cystine electrocatalytic activity reduction on the Pb/nanoTiO2 film electrodes was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and Chronoamperometric curves.The results showed that this type of the electrode posseses high acticity and stability.

The Pt nanoflower/ZnO(PtNF/ZnO) nanorod composites arrays were electrochemically prepared by controlling the hydrophobicity and the hydrophilicity of ZnO nanorods arrays.The Pt nanoflowers grew on the tip of ZnO nanorods,which maintain the vertical array of Zno nanorods with a high degree of size uniformity and high surface area.Compared with Pt nanoparticle covered ZnO nanorod arrays,which were prepared by controlling the hydrophilicities of ZnO nanorods and Pt nanoparticles,the PtNF/ZnO displayed highest electrocatalytic activities for the oxidation of methanol.
