XTO has requested their existing Temporary Use Permit (UTU-82322-01), which authorizes an existing 8 inch, surface, steel, and natural gas pipeline be converted to a permanent right-of-way grant. In addition, XTO proposes to remove a portion of the existing pipeline and to install an additional 15,075 feet of 12 inch, buried, natural gas pipe line to re-direct the flow of gas. XTO has constructed a natural gas compressor plant (Wild Horse Bench Compressor Site) on Ute Tribal land and would like to redirect the flow of gas from the Kings Canyon Area to this facility which involves the removal of …

This Environmental Assessment (EA) documents the analysis of a Proposed Action and the No Action alternative for the Mammoth-Duck Creek Recovery Project. The Proposed Action is designed to meet the following Purpose and Need within urban interface areas, Forest campgrounds and along designated Forest roads (Focus Areas): restore forest health by reducing bark beetle populations and protecting and retaining scenic vegetation; eliminate safety hazards by reducing fuels buildup and fire danger; manage habitats to maintain viable populations of existing native or desired non-native vertebrate species; and recover the volume and value of trees killed by bark beetles.
