Automated Microscopy Platform For High-Throughput Analysis Of Cellular Characteristics, Hussam Ibrahim
Automated Microscopy Platform For High-Throughput Analysis Of Cellular Characteristics, Hussam Ibrahim
Physics: Student Scholarship & Creative Works
Existing microscopy platforms allow analysis post-hoc, but not in real time. This is an issue in the world of Bioengineering because you are limited to performing further analysis on specimen. The aim of my research was to design a sophisticated system whereby information can be exchanged between the software which acquires images and software that analyzes the images immediately after acquisition. In this system, images would be acquired by the microscope and analyzed by customized scripts (MATLAB, Mathworks) in real time. Specifically, MATLAB would wait for new images to be saved on the hard drive, import these images, and perform …
Mapping Morels: Predicting The Locations Of Morchella Species Through Environmental Factors Using The Gis System, Emily M. Stanevicius
Mapping Morels: Predicting The Locations Of Morchella Species Through Environmental Factors Using The Gis System, Emily M. Stanevicius
Celebration of Learning
Morel mushrooms, Morechella esculenta and M. deliciosa, are known delicacies across the globe, ranging from exquisite dishes in French cuisine to Eastern palates such as Japanese Matsutake. According to literature, true morels diverged as their own genus about 129 million years, again which has led to the development of more than 177 species and have been part of the human diet since their beginning. However, the elusiveness of morels has contributed to the mushrooms infamy for rarity, and has even been known to sell for more than $40 per pound. This project seeks to aid in the search for morels …
Modeling Fantasy Football Quarterbacks, Kyle Zeberlein, Myles Wallin
Modeling Fantasy Football Quarterbacks, Kyle Zeberlein, Myles Wallin
Celebration of Learning
Fantasy football is a way to score NFL players based off of their statistics in particular categories. We have created formulas for modeling every quarterback’s fantasy football points per game in the 2015-2016 season. Our model is partitioned into four sub-models depending on the length of the quarterback’s career in the NFL. We have developed a weighted model based on previous years’ performance of the quarterback, of the defense, and of the quarterback against the defense using data from the NFL. We compare our projections for the season against Yahoo’s projections for the season.
Statistics In League Of Legends: Analyzing Runes For Last-Hitting, Brian M. Hook
Statistics In League Of Legends: Analyzing Runes For Last-Hitting, Brian M. Hook
Mathematics: Student Scholarship & Creative Works
While other sports have statisticians to evaluate players and their stats, in electronic sports there is a need for statisticians to evaluate different parts of the game. League of Legends is the most popular of ESports and is the focus of this discussion. The mechanic of focus here is runes which give boosts to the players stats in-game like being able to do extra damage. We will be finding the effectiveness of these runes by looking at gold efficiency, help with last hitting, and extra damage dealt through the use of Python.

Influence Of Urban Disturbances, Soil Properties, And Other Abiotic And Biotic Factors On L. Maackii Invasions Of Remnant Urban Riparian Hardwood Forests, Taylor B. Johnson
Environmental Studies: Student Scholarship & Creative Works
Urbanization is a global demographic trend that may have significant and detrimental effects on adjacent urban ecosystems. Lonicer Maackii (L. maackii), commonly referred to as Amur honeysuckle, is an invasive shrub that has invaded the remnant temperate hardwood forests of Rock Island County, IL. The goal of this study was to examine the effects of urbanization and urban soil properties on the degree of L. maackii invasion throughout this county next to the Mississippi river. Soil samples were tested at 36 forest sites for Soil Organic Matter and Soil texture. Linear regression models were ran on the results of …
Cruising The Canal: A Methodological Approach To Assessing Trail Conditions Along The Hennepin Canal Parkway, Alyssa Clarida
Cruising The Canal: A Methodological Approach To Assessing Trail Conditions Along The Hennepin Canal Parkway, Alyssa Clarida
Geography: Student Scholarship & Creative Works
Trail conditions in the United States are degrading and trail systems do not receive enough funding to repair them in a timely manner. Park managers often conduct trail assessments to collect trail condition data. They use this data to make timely and judicious decisions regarding trail repairs. However, many trail assessments are time consuming, costly, and require high levels of expertise. This project creates a trail assessment methodology that can be applied to a trail with limited funds. The final methodology was efficient, succinct, accurate, and simple to conduct. It uses a problem based methodology where every instance of degradation …
Ex-Situ Conservation Programs: Worthwhile?, Nicolette Sliwa, Aaron Sieve
Ex-Situ Conservation Programs: Worthwhile?, Nicolette Sliwa, Aaron Sieve
Biology: Student Scholarship & Creative Works
The effectiveness of conservation programs was researched, specifically within zoos, and their attempts to repopulate areas with captive-born individuals of endangered species. There are major biological and economic concerns with these programs focused on, including potential genetic adaptation to captivity, effects of inbreeding, and if this is a truly worthwhile use of funds to restore a species. Looking at the black-footed ferret, the whooping crane, and other supposed successful captive-breeding programs, it is explored whether reintroduced individuals thrive in their new habitats sufficiently enough to contribute to the restoration of the species, and more broadly, their ecosystems.

Art Above 66° 33', Augustana College, Rock Island Illinois
2016-2017
66˚ 33' is the latitude of the Arctic and Antarctic Circles, and this exhibition considers these geographic areas as inspiration for the visual arts. In addition, it utilizes the visual arts as a mode by which to encourage viewers to more deeply engage with the planet’s most northerly and southerly regions. It considers the issues, history and environment of the regions, spanning media, process and subject – from the figural to the abstract, tactile to sound, analog to digital.
This exhibition was a collaboration with the Augustana Center for Polar Studies.
