Deepnec: A Novel Alignment-Free Tool For The Characterization Of Nitrification-Related Enzymes Using Deep Learning, A Step Towards Comprehensive Understanding Of The Nitrogen Cycle, Naveen Duhan
Student Research Symposium
Abstract: Nitrification is an important microbial two-step transformation in the global nitrogen cycle, as it is the only natural process that produces nitrate within a system. The functional annotation of nitrification-related enzymes has a broad range of applications in metagenomics, agriculture, industrial biotechnology, etc. The time and resources needed for determining the function of enzymes experimentally are restrictively costly. Therefore, an accurate genome-scale computational prediction of the nitrification-related enzymes has become much more important. In this study, we developed an alignment-free computational approach to determine the nitrification-related enzymes from the sequence itself. We propose deepNEC, a novel end-to-end feature selection and …
Effect Of Plant Derived Tannins On Nitrogen And Carbon Cycling In Pasture Soils, Kathryn A. Slebodnik
Effect Of Plant Derived Tannins On Nitrogen And Carbon Cycling In Pasture Soils, Kathryn A. Slebodnik
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Pasture-finished beef has become increasingly popular, but nitrogen losses from these pastures are of concern. Legumes containing condensed tannins such as birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) and sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) may serve as environmentally and economically viable alternative forages in pasture finishing systems while reducing soil nitrogen loss. The goal of this project was to understand how tannin type and concentration affects soil nitrogen cycling both in the lab and the field. This thesis: 1) compared the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of soil samples obtained from grazed grass and tannin and non-tannin containing legume pastures, 2) …
Nitrification In Three Different Soils In Polyethylene Bags In The Field Overwinter, William R. Olmstead
Nitrification In Three Different Soils In Polyethylene Bags In The Field Overwinter, William R. Olmstead
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Nitrification, the process whereby ammonical-nitrogen (NH4+ - N) is changed into nitrate-nitrogen (NO3--N), is one of the more important biochemical processes associated with agriculture. Nitrate appears to be the form of N that most crops can most readily utilize.
The Effect Of Temperature And Moisture On Nitrification Of Applied Ammoniacal Fertilizer In A Noncalcareous Soil, Merwin Allen Stevens
The Effect Of Temperature And Moisture On Nitrification Of Applied Ammoniacal Fertilizer In A Noncalcareous Soil, Merwin Allen Stevens
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The importance of nitrogen in world agriculture has been known for many years. But in the past few decades the enormity of the problem of nitrogen economy has been recognized. Along with the recognition of this problem there has developed a great increase in the use of nitrogen fertilizers. Coupled with the increased use of nitrogen there has come about an increasing awareness of the problem involved in the use of nitrogen fertilizers.
