This study examined the effect of a semester-long, outdoor leadership course upon the environmental beliefs and attitudes of participants. Embedded within this study is a three-week field expedition as part of the curriculum for the treatment group. Two research questions were examined. First, are there initial differences in demographic variables between the treatment and control group students? In the past 30 years, a number of researchers have attempted to understand what makes people care about the environment or what underlies "environmental sensitivity."
