The Application Of Tomographic Reconstruction Techniques To Ill-Conditioned Inverse Problems In Atmospheric Science And Biomedical Imaging, Vern Philip Hart Ii

Tomography is an imaging technique in which 3D models of objects are created from several 2D projections viewed at different angles. When the number of available projections is limited, the resulting data are said to be sparse. This restriction is often a direct result of the imaging geometry used to acquire the data. One-sided views and a small number of receivers can reduce the range of available projections, which makes the object more difficult to reconstruct. Approximate solutions to difficult imaging problems can be obtained using a class of iterative algorithms known as the algebraic reconstruction techniques (ARTs). The presented …

To help undergraduates make connections among disciplines so they are able to approach, evaluate, and contribute to the solutions of important global problems, our campus has been focused on interdisciplinary research and education opportunities across the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. This paper describes the mobilization, planning, and implementation of a first-year interdisciplinary course for STEM majors that integrates key concepts found in traditional first-semester biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics courses. Experimental Studies Of The Nacs 53Π0 And A3Σ+ States, Seth T. Ashman, B. Mcgeehan, C. M. Wolfe, C. Faust, K. Richter

We report high resolution measurements of 372 NaCs 53Π0(v, J) ro-vibrational level energies in the range 0 ≤ v ≤ 22. The data have been used to construct NaCs 53Π0 potential energy curves using the Rydberg–Klein-Rees and inverted perturbation approximation methods. Bound-free 53Π0(v, J) → 1(a)3Σ+ emission has also been measured, and is used to determine the repulsive wall of the 1(a)3Σ+ state and the 53Π0 → 1(a)3Σ+ relative transition dipole moment function. Hyperfine structure in the 53Π0 state has not been observed in this experiment. This null result is explained using a simple vector coupling model.

In the last 20 years attitudes towards science and science classes in K-12 education have been an important topic of investigation due to the decreasing number of students choosing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) related careers, and the increasing need for STEM prepared workers to cover the job demands of the future.
