Computational Models To Detect Radiation In Urban Environments: An Application Of Signal Processing Techniques And Neural Networks To Radiation Data Analysis, Jose Nicolas Gachancipa

Beyond: Undergraduate Research Journal

Radioactive sources, such as uranium-235, are nuclides that emit ionizing radiation, and which can be used to build nuclear weapons. In public areas, the presence of a radioactive nuclide can present a risk to the population, and therefore, it is imperative that threats are identified by radiological search and response teams in a timely and effective manner. In urban environments, such as densely populated cities, radioactive sources may be more difficult to detect, since background radiation produced by surrounding objects and structures (e.g., buildings, cars) can hinder the effective detection of unnatural radioactive material. This article presents a computational model …

Definition Of Extended Structural Defects In Epitaxial Films Of Znteg‘Gaas Grown By Mbe, Muratbay B. Sharibaev, Kanatbay A. Ismailov, Ibrohim N. Karimov, Murodjon Z. Nosirov

Scientific Bulletin. Physical and Mathematical Research

The last three decades of the development of solid state physics are characterized by the fact that the main objects of research are increasingly not massive crystals, but thin films, multilayer thin-film systems, conducting filaments and crystallites of small size. Epitaxial films are grown on a substrate of a single crystal of the same or another material. In the first case, the epitaxial layer with the correct technology becomes a natural extension of the substrate. Epitaxial film can be doped with various impurities. To introduce an alloying admixture into the epitaxial film, three methods are used. According to the first …

Rotation And Radiation Effects On Mhd Flow Past An Inclined Plate With Variable Wall Temperature And Mass Diffusion In The Presence Of Hall Current, U. S. Rajput, Gaurav Kumar

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In the present paper, rotation and radiation effects on unsteady MHD flow passed an inclined plate with variable wall temperature and mass diffusion in the presence of Hall current has been studied. The fluid considered is viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting. Earlier, we have studied unsteady MHD flow past an impulsively started inclined plate with variable temperature and mass diffusion. In that study we had analyzed the effect of Hall current (2016). We obtained the results which were in agreement with the desired flow phenomenon. To study further, we are changing the model by considering radiation and rotation effect on …

Effects Of Variable Viscosity And Thermal Conductivity On Magnetohydrodynamic Free Convection Flow Of A Micropolar Fluid Past A Stretching Plate Through Porous Medium With Radiation, Heat Generation, And Joule Dissipation, Gopal Chandra Hazarika, Bandita Phukan

Turkish Journal of Physics

The effects of temperature-dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity on free convection magnetohydrodynamic flow of an optically thin gray, viscous, and incompressible micropolar fluid and heat transfer past a stretching plate through porous medium in the presence of radiation, heat generation, and Joule dissipation were studied. The fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity were assumed to vary as inverse linear functions of temperature. Using similarity transformation, the governing partial differential equations of motion were reduced to ordinary ones, which were solved numerically for prescribed boundary conditions using the shooting method. Numerical results for the velocity, angular velocity, and temperature profiles are shown …

The Combined Effect Of Chemical Reaction, Radiation, Mhd On Mixed Convection Heat And Mass Transfer Along A Vertical Moving Surface, Navneet Joshi, Manoj Kumar

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This paper discusses the effect of Chemical reaction, Radiation and MHD on laminar mixed convection boundary layer flow and heat and mass transfer on continuously moving vertical surface. The fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as an inverse linear function of temperature and local similarity solutions are obtained for the boundary layer equations subject to isothermally moving vertical surface with uniform speed. The system of non-linear partial differential equations developed in the process is finally transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations with the help of similarity transformations involved in the problem. This set of equations is for different …

Effects Of Radiation And Variable Viscosity On Mhd Free Convective Flow And Mass Transfer Over A Stretching Sheet With Chemical Reaction, M. A. Seddeek, A. A. Almushigeh

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

A similarity solution is proposed for the analysis of steady free convection heat and mass transfer over a stretching sheet. The effect of radiation, chemical reaction and variable viscosity on hydromagnetic heat and mass transfer in the presence of magnetic field are investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to the ordinary differential equations using similarity variables, and then solved numerically by means of the fourth-order Runge– Kutta method with shooting technique. A comparison with exact solution is performed and the results are found to be in excellent. Numerical results for the velocity, temperature and concentration as well as …

Compton's 'Crucial Test' - Theoretical Preconceptions And Experimental Interpretation, Roger H. Stuewer Jan 1977

Compton's 'Crucial Test' - Theoretical Preconceptions And Experimental Interpretation, Roger H. Stuewer

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

Arthur Holly Compton, as a result of his own research and confidence in the validity of classical electrodynamics, was convinced in 1921 that homogeneous x-rays and gamma rays could be affected in only two possible ways when passing through matter: either they gave rise to "truly scattered" radiation of the same wavelength as that of the incident rays, or they excited "fluorescent" radiation of a longer wavelength. When Compton was led to carry out experiments using homogeneous x-rays and actually found secondary radiation of longer wavelength, he regarded his result as a crucial test between the "truly scattered" and the …
