Beach Erosion Control Study On Duval County, Fla, U.S. Army Engineer District, Jacksonville Corps Of Engineers

Waterways and wildlife

The purpose of this study was to define the beach erosion and the hurricane-induced flooding problems in Duval County, to determine the most economical methods of alleviating those problems, and to determine the division of costs between the Federal Government and local interests .

A Comparison Between The Direction Of Tornado Movement And The Associated 500 Mb. Level Wind Direction, Allen B. Johnson Jan 1964

A Comparison Between The Direction Of Tornado Movement And The Associated 500 Mb. Level Wind Direction, Allen B. Johnson

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

An investigation to ( 1) determine the 500-milli-bar level weather patterns associated with tornadoes moving from northwest toward southeast and from southwest toward northeast and, (2) show the significance of the contrasts between the 500-mb. level weather patterns of the two tornado types. A very high relationship between the direction of the 500-mb. level winds and the tornado direction was substantiated by a coefficient of correlation of +0.88. The typical 500-mb. level low center associated with the northwest to southeast type tornado was located over Hudson Bay about 1300 miles north-northeast of the tornado area. The low center associated with …

Solar Energy And Sunshine In Nebraska, Norman J. Rosenberg Jan 1964

Solar Energy And Sunshine In Nebraska, Norman J. Rosenberg

Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station

Weather Bureau records of measured solar radiation useful in interpreting the solar energy regime in Nebraska are available from Lincoln-Omaha, Nebraska; Dodge City, Kansas; Laramie, Wyoming and Rapid City, South Dakota. Pertinent records of sunshine duration (percent of possible sunshine) are available from Lincoln, Omaha, North Platte and Valentine, Nebraska; from Concordia and Dodge City, Kansas; from Cheyenne, Wyoming; from Rapid City and Huron, South Dakota and from Sioux City, Iowa. These records have been subjected to statistical summarization and analysis.

Investigations Of Inner Continental Shelf Waters Off Lower Chesapeake Bay. Part V. Seasonality Of The Diatom Genus Chaetoceros, Richard A. Mulford Jan 1964

Investigations Of Inner Continental Shelf Waters Off Lower Chesapeake Bay. Part V. Seasonality Of The Diatom Genus Chaetoceros, Richard A. Mulford

VIMS Articles

Twenty-five species of Chaetoceros were taken from monthly samples during one year in the Atlantic Ocean off the Virginia capes. Results indicate the fall-winter period to be the most productive in numbers and species diversity. The Chaetoceros population was primarily a mixture of cold- and warm-water forms, with two species, C. decipiens and C. didymus, being most abundant and widespread. A cyclic seasonal pattern based on past records is suggested for the genus along the east coast of the United States. Seasonality, temperature, and salinity ranges for each species are presented.

Migratory Movements Of Emus And Control Efforts, John L. Long, T. J. Tozer Jan 1964

Migratory Movements Of Emus And Control Efforts, John L. Long, T. J. Tozer

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

ALTHOUGH little data has been recorded on movements or migrations of the Emu (Dromaius novea-hollandiae), it is well known throughout the farming community that some such movement occurs in September and October in most years at least.
