Unionization, Optimal Fiscal Policy And Endogenous Economic Growth., Chandril Bhattacharyya Dr. Jul 2017

Unionization, Optimal Fiscal Policy And Endogenous Economic Growth., Chandril Bhattacharyya Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Modern GrowthTheory Countries with high per capita real GDP are usually associated with higher standard of living of its citizens. In fact, the greater the aggregate Pie grows into, it becomes easier for the government to subsidize people of the bottom section of income distribution. As a result, the theory of economic growth receives a great importance in the Economics literature. Economic growth rate is defined as the rate of increase in per capita real GDP over time; and a very small difference in growth rate may result into a huge difference in per capita real GDP in the long …

Some Statistical Contributions To The Analysis Of Human Genome Diversity And Evolution., Analabha Basu Dr. Aug 2004

Some Statistical Contributions To The Analysis Of Human Genome Diversity And Evolution., Analabha Basu Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The work embodied in this thesis pertains to human population genetics. In particular, the overarching goals of this thesis are to contribute to the understanding of genomic diversity of human populations and to the development of statistical methods for making inferences in genome diversity studies. With these two goals in mind, we have carried out a detailed statistical analysis of genomic data on a large number of ethnic populations of India, generated in the laboratory of the Anthropology & Human Genetics Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. Additionally, wherever relevant, we have compared our data with those collated from the published …

Combinatorial Techniques For Digital Image Charecterization And Retrieval:Algorithms,Architectures,And Applications., Arijit Bishnu Dr. May 2003

Combinatorial Techniques For Digital Image Charecterization And Retrieval:Algorithms,Architectures,And Applications., Arijit Bishnu Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Interest in digital images stems mostly from its application to various areas of computer vision [33, 57] and pattern recognition [145). Problems include robotic vision and con- trol, geographic and topographic map matching, target recognition, space applications, character recognition, scene analysis, fingerprint and face recognition, etc. Lately, with the advent of content-based image retrieval (CBIR) and proliferation of the Internet, digital imaging applications are in vogue now than ever before. In almost all the cases, the data size is enormously large, and at the same time, fast on-line as well as real- time computation is needed. For example, in fingerprint …

Essays On First Best Implementable Incentive Problem., Manipushpak Mitra Dr. Mar 2000

Essays On First Best Implementable Incentive Problem., Manipushpak Mitra Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The theory of mechanism design originated in the mid 1930s with the work of Lange[27], Lerner (28] and Hayek [20] on market socialism'. Further regular was added to their ideas by Arrow and Hurwicz (1). Hurwicz extended them to the general problem of mechanism design. An important aspect of mechanism design is asymmetric information. Information asymmetry typically imposes constraints on the goals which can be attained. For example. in the classic pure public goods problem, mechanisms that achieve truthful revelation of private information are Pareto sub-optimal i.e. these mechanisms lead to a welfare loss (see Hurwicz [24]). When can mechanism …

On Cvt Minimization In Single Machine Scheduling., D. K. Manna Dr. Feb 1997

On Cvt Minimization In Single Machine Scheduling., D. K. Manna Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Scheduling problens are quite common in real life. They arise whenever there is a need to plan execution of various tasks over time and therefore they play very important roles in commercial set-ups concerning manufacturing or service in the optimal use of resources and/or customers satisfaction. The theory of scheduling deals with the construction of suitable models and their analyses. Researchersattention was drawn to the study of scheduling problems using mathematical modeling, probably for the first time when Johnson (1954] published his famous work on flowshop problem. Since then, the study of scheduling problem and its context has gradually attracted …

Contribution To Theories Of Repetitive Sampling Strategies., Raghunath Arnab Dr. Mar 1980

Contribution To Theories Of Repetitive Sampling Strategies., Raghunath Arnab Dr.

Doctoral Theses

A common practical problem to whlch a survey - sampler has frequently to address himself 1s one of sampling a given finite population on successive occasions. One of the relevant issues requiring one's attention then 1s to adopt a suitable sampling strategy to estimate the population total of a variate of interest an the current occasion in an optimal manner. Here one has of necessity to take care to utilize the accumalated data on that variate procured in course of the survey along with other auxdliary information on one or more additional variables that may also incidentally be available, Several …

On The Recovery Of Linear Group Information In One And Two Way Designs., K. R. Shah Dr. Feb 1965

On The Recovery Of Linear Group Information In One And Two Way Designs., K. R. Shah Dr.

Doctoral Theses

This thesis is being submitted to the Indian Statistical Insti tute in support of the authors application for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. The thesis embodies research oarried out by the author during the period 1960-1963 under the supervision of Dr. J. Roy, Professor of Statistics at the Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta. Some aspects of recovery of inter-group information are exmined in this thesis, The main results are concermed with the variance of the combined inter and int r-block estimntors in incomplete block designs , recovery of inter-row and inter-column information in two-wy designs laid out in row9 and columns, …

Distribution Theory Of Some Classification Statistics., S. John Dr.

Doctoral Theses

This thesis eives the distri bution theory of four clae aifioation statistics. Sone parta of it were published a few years ago. The relevant publicationa are listed nt the end. What the author knows of related work by other authors is set out in the Introductions little material of this nature is given elsewhere in the theats. If a result is not explicitly credited to another author, it may be taken to nean that the author believes it to be hia worik. It will be noticed that three (U, R and 2) of the four statistics receive less a pace than the …

Some Problems Of Estimation In Sampling From Finite Populations., M. Murthy Dr. Jul 1962

Some Problems Of Estimation In Sampling From Finite Populations., M. Murthy Dr.

Doctoral Theses

In this thesis the results of the research work done by the author in the field of sample surveys are presented. Scheme problems of estimation in sampling from finite populations were taken up for reset arch. A brief summary of this thesis is given below. In chapter 1, the author has developed a generalized theory of getting unbiased estimator for a certain class of parameters in sampling from finite population. The class of parameters considered are those which can be expressed as the sum of single-valued set functions defined over a class of sets of units belonging to a finite population. …
