Unlike in many developed countries, in India, institutions for distribution of goods and services are not well developed. Hence policy makers are concerned with the development of economic institutions to promote growth, remove unemployment and eradicate poverty. In addition to the general fiscal and monetary policy instruments such as taxes, su bsidies, bank rate, open market operations etc, the government also uses several price and non-price controls.
