Two important skills for scientists in developmental and cell biology, as well as in fields such as neurobiology, histology and pathology, are: 1) observation of features and details in microscopic images of cells, and 2) quantification of cellular features observed in microscopic images. However, current training in developmental and cell biology does not emphasize observation and quantitative analysis of microscopic images, and it is unclear how best to teach students these skills. Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) are small peptides that can transfer other materials into a cellular compartment. In this research, we studied the effect of fusion of new CPPs to the N-terminal of enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein eGFP on the ability of the latter to fluoresce. Results showed that the recombinant protein CPPs-eGFP could be successfully expressed in Escherichia coli. In contrast to E. coli expressing wild-type eGFP, which could fluoresce under ultraviolet (UV) or visible light, E. coli expressing CPPs-eGFP lost their ability to fluoresce. This study investigated the catalytic ability of ZrOCl2∙8H2O as a mild, environmentally benign nature, and economical catalyst for the multi-component efficient synthesis of biologically active highly substituted dihydro-2-oxopyrrole derivatives with excellent yields and short reaction times. This procedure has several advantages, including use of mild, nontoxic, and inexpensive catalysts, one-pot synthesis, environmentally benign nature, simple operational procedure, and highly efficient conditions.

It was shown that the swelling of the initially hydrophobic Nafion plate in ordinary water (157 ppm deuterium content) and in deuterium-depleted water (1 ppm deuterium content) in a limited volume cell occurs differently. It turned out that small changes in the deuterium content in water lead to significant differences in the dynamics of swelling of the polymer membrane. For a 175-micron thick Nafion plate, this effect is most pronounced when the distance between the windows is L = 200 microns.

In this paper, we considered the problem of analytical continuation of the solution of the system equations of the thermoelasticity in bounded domain from its values and values of its strains on part of the boundary of this domain, i.e., the Cauchy’s problem and we give a criterion for the solvability of the Cauchy problem.

The article presents the results of studying the complexity of the Raman spectra of a-alanine in the crystalline state. It has been shown by ab initio calculations that the change in the Raman spectra is explained by the formation of several types of hydrogen bonds. In Raman spectra, the presence of a hydrogen bond between molecules is manifested in the form of asymmetry and splitting of vibrational bands.

In recent years, carbon dots (C-dots) have gained appreciable interest owing to their unique optical properties, including tunable fluorescence, stability against photobleaching and photoblinking, and strong fluorescence. Simple and low-cost hydrothermal and electrochemical approaches have been widely used in the preparation of biocompatible and high-quality C-dots. Various C-dots have been used for the quantitation of small analytes, mostly based on analyte induced fluorescence quenching. Depending on the nature of precursors, synthetic conditions (such as reaction temperature and time), and surface conjugation, multi-function C-dots can be prepared and used in diagnostics and therapeutics. This paper deals with a host-parasitoid model subject to Allee effect and its dynamical behavior. Steady state points of the proposed host-parasitoid model are computed. Stability properties are analyzed with eigen values of Jacobian matrix which are determined at the steady states. Theoretical findings are supported by numerical illustrations and enhanced by pictorial representations such as bifurcation diagrams, phase portraits and local amplifications for different parameter values. A non-linear SEIR mathematical model for coronavirus disease in India has been proposed, by incorporating the saturated incidence rate on the occurrence of new infections. In the model, the threshold quantity known as the reproduction number is evaluated which determines the stability of disease-free equilibrium and the endemic equilibrium points. The disease-free equilibrium point becomes globally asymptotically stable when the corresponding reproduction number is less than unity, whereas, if it is greater than unity then the endemic equilibrium point comes into existence, which is locally asymptotically stable under certain restrictions on the parameters value in the model. In this paper an eco-epidemiological model incorporating a prey refuge and prey harvesting with disease in the prey-population is considered. Predators are assumed to consume both the susceptible and infected prey at different rates. The positivity and boundedness of the solution of the system are discussed. The existence and stability of the biologically feasible equilibrium points are investigated. Numerical simulations are performed to support our analytical findings.

Extending Power Series Methods For The Hodgkin-Huxley Equations, Including Sensitive Dependence, James S. Sochacki

A neural cell or neuron is the basic building block of the brain and transmits information to other neurons. This paper demonstrates the complicated dynamics of the neuron through a numerical study of the Hodgkin-Huxley differential equations that model the ionic mechanisms of the neuron: slight changes in parameter values and inputted electrical impulses can lead to very different (unexpected) results. The methods and ideas developed for the ordinary differential equations are extended to partial differential equations for Hodgkin-Huxley networks of neurons in one, two and three dimensions.

Human–Wildlife Interactions
Biodiversity conservation in developing countries is faced with many and mounting challenges, including increasing human–wildlife conflicts (HWCs). In Africa and other developing countries, increasing HWCs, particularly those adjacent to protected areas, can adversely affect local stakeholder perceptions and support for conservation. We analyzed HWC reports for multiple wildlife species compiled >23 years (1995–2017) from the Greater Tsavo Ecosystem (GTE) in Kenya to determine HWC trends. The GTE is the largest protected area in Kenya, covering 22,681 km2. Overall, 39,022 HWC incidents were reported in 6 GTE regions (i.e., Taveta, Mutomo, Kibwezi, Rombo, Galana, Bachuma). Period Estimation And Noise In A Neutrally Stable Stochastic Oscillator, Kevin R. Sanft, Ben F. M. Intoy
Spora: A Journal of Biomathematics
The periods of the orbits for the well-mixed cyclic three-species Lotka-Volterra model far away from the fixed point are studied. For finite system sizes, a discrete stochastic approach is employed and periods are found via wavelet analysis. As the system size is increased, a hierarchy of approximations ranging from Poisson noise to Gaussian noise to deterministic models are utilized. Based on the deterministic equations, a mathematical relationship between a conserved quantity of the model and the period of the population oscillations is found. Exploiting this property we then study the deterministic conserved quantity and period noise in finite size systems.

Faced with the near unanimity of biblical anthropology among biblical theology (Botterweck & Ringgren, 1974–2006; Brown, 1975; Harris, Archer, & Waltke, 1980; Kittle & Friedrich, 1964–1976; VanGemeren, 1997), I propose an analysis of the biblical words and concepts, focusing on: (1) “image of God” and (2) “soul.” This approach results in a functionalism, which I call a multi-faceted unity. I propose to extend these biblical theology categories into the field of bio-ethics for implications. A Lakatos philosophy of science fosters nuanced precision within critical realism, recognizing that falsification of any theory (for example, evolution) does not occur without providing a better theory.
Imre Lakatos articulated a moderate foundational rational model of derivation in the philosophy of mathematics and science that utilized Peircian pragmatism to encourage its productivity and to make sense of paradigm change. A finite dimensional model for the electron and proton has been used to compute nuclear properties such as: structure, binding energies, energies and rates of decay of radioactive isotopes.
Computations were conducted within the frame of classical electromagnetic interactions between toroidal electrons and protons of finite, fixed dimensions. Positions and orientations of each particle were allowed to vary using the variational method, until the minimum energy configuration was attained.

The aim of this work is to determine the yield of the essential oil of the Myrtus communis leaves, to identify its chemical composition and to evaluate its antibacterial properties. The plant is harvested from Sidi Ahmed Chrif, a region in Ouazzane, Morocco. The extraction of the essential oil was carried out by hydrodistillation in a Clevenger apparatus type. The average yield was 0.7%. The analysis of this oil by Gas Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrum (GC/MS) allows the identification of 32 compounds. A pot assay on the plastic container of the wire sunshade in the University of Kerbala's Agricultural Division was conducted to research the impact of potassium treatment, the salinity of irrigation water and ascobin sprinkling, just as their connections, on the some plant hormones activities (auxin, gibberellin and abscisic acid) in developing Zea mays crops in a soil with sandy texture during the farming fall period of 2017–2018.
