Stratigraphy And Structure Of The Goajira Peninsula, Northwestern Venezuela And Northeastern Colombia, John F. Rollins Jan 1965

Stratigraphy And Structure Of The Goajira Peninsula, Northwestern Venezuela And Northeastern Colombia, John F. Rollins

Papers from the University Studies series (University of Nebraska)

The Goajira Peninsula forms the northernmost extension of continental South America (see Fig. 1). Its lobate outer portion, the area of this geologic study, is a mountainous region about 75 kilometers wide at its widest part and juts 150 kilometers northeastward into the Caribbean Sea. Although only about 110 kilometers north of the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela, the Peninsula is isolated and little known. Only a narrow coastal strip lies in Venezuela; the remainder is in Colombia; but the Peninsula is largely a desert wasteland not extensively entered by people other than its own sparse Indian population. Its remoteness has …

The Pleistocene Geology Of The Middle ·Portion Of The Elkhorn River Valley, W. D. Frankforter Jul 1950

The Pleistocene Geology Of The Middle ·Portion Of The Elkhorn River Valley, W. D. Frankforter

Papers from the University Studies series (University of Nebraska)

The present report is a physiographic and paleontologic approach to the Pleistocene history of a portion of the Elkhorn River Valley in parts of Dodge, Cuming and Stanton counties in northeastern Nebraska. The area is important for correlation of deposits between the glacial and periglacial regions. Some of the critical stratigraphic units used for correlation in the Pleistocene of these regions are present in close association with the tills and contain fossils which make possible reliable statements on contemporaneity of deposits. The subsequent geologic history and present physiographic expression of this area have been greatly controlled and influenced by the …

The Post-Kansan Geologic History Of The Lower Platte Valley Area, Gilbert Carl Lueninghoener Sep 1947

The Post-Kansan Geologic History Of The Lower Platte Valley Area, Gilbert Carl Lueninghoener

Papers from the University Studies series (University of Nebraska)

This investigation is essentially a geomorphological study of the lower Platte River Valley area in eastern Nebraska. The area comprises Saunders, Dodge, Washington, Douglas, Sarpy, and Cass counties. The area defined above is one of the most critically located of any for the study of the post-Kansan history of the lower Platte River Valley. It lies between the older till (Nebraskan and Kansan) borders to the west and the younger till (Illinoian, Iowan, and Wisconsin) borders to the east. Physiographic changes have therefore transpired in a strictly post-Kansan periglacial region. The Kansan till is the youngest in the area. The …
