Environmental Impact Assessment (Eia) Of As, Se, Sn, And Hg In Water And Sediments From The Egyptian Red Sea Ports, Lamiaa I. Mohamedein, Khalid M. El-Moselhy, Mohamed A. El-Sawy

Blue Economy

Background: Pollution monitoring is an important tool to protect the marine ecosystems where ports had been seen as a source of contamination affecting the public wellbeing. Methods: Therefore, in the present study, surface seawater and surficial sediment samples were collected from 19 stations covering six ports of the Egyptian Red Sea during summer 2017 and winter 2018. The concentrations of As, Se, Sn, and Hg were determined using the Hydride system MH10 coupled with atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Results: The obtained data revealed that mean values of AS, Se, Sn and Hg for water samples were ranged between …

Aerial applications of liquid methoprene are used in salt marshes to control mosquitoes by preventing adult emergence. Despite concern about toxicity to non-target organisms, little is known about environmental concentrations after applications, nor methoprene's persistence in salt marsh environments. Aqueous and sediment samples were collected from two marshes receiving weekly applications. Aqueous samples were collected as early as 30 minutes after applications and as long as nine days afterwards; sediment samples were taken within hours of application and as long as 19 days post-application. Use of time-of-flight liquid chromatography – mass spectral analysis allowed for ultra low detection limits (0.5 …

Winter And Summer Sediment Nutrient Exchange Rates In Hillsborough Bay, Florida, City Of Tampa Department Of Sanitary Sewers

Reports

Winter and summer in-situ measurements of sediment oxygen demand (SOD) and nutrient exchange rates (NERs) were taken from sandy and muddy sediments in Hillsborough Bay during 1986. The summer-mud SOD rate of 0.23 g 02/m2/hr was roughly twice the summer-sand, winter-sand and winter-mud SOD rates. In general, nutrient flux rates into the water column were usually greater from mud relative to sand, and during the summer compared to the winter. Reservations in the application of the SOD/NER data and recommendations for future SOD/NER measurements are discussed.
