The hydrostatic piezoelectric properties of [011] poled Pb(Mg 1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) crystals and corresponding 2-2 crystal/epoxy composites were investigated. The crystal volume ratio and compositional dependencies of the hydrostatic charge and voltage coefficients (dh and gh) and hydrostatic figure of merit (FOM) dh x gh were determined, where large FOM value of 3.2 pm2/N with high stability as a function of hydrostatic pressure was achieved for rhombohedral crystal composites. In addition, the stress amplification effects of the face-plate and different epoxy matrixes were investigated, with maximum FOM value being on the order of 92 pm2/N, indicating that 2-2 crystal/epoxy composites are …

The various molar concentrations of cobalt doped manganese dioxide (Co-MnO2) nanostructures were synthesized by an hydrothermal technique for electrochemical supercapacitor application. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the samples were composed of multiphase of MnO2 with dominant reflections of γ-MnO2 structure of crystallization. The morphological studies displayed the existence of MnO 2 nanowires with the width of 10-20 nm and showing a good degree of crystallization. The electrochemical characterization was performed using cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge/discharge test and impedance spectroscopy in 1 M Na2SO4 aqueous electrolyte. All the samples exhibit a typical ideal capacitive behavior with an increasing order of …

One of the major challenges in realizing the GaAs channel in the metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor is the degrading in electron transport properties at the interface between GaAs and the gate oxide. In this study, Hf0.6La0.4Ox gate oxide films were deposited at a low temperature (200 °C) on GaAs(111)A and GaAs(100) substrates by plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition. Microstructure analysis indicates that residuals of gallium oxide, arsenic oxide, and As element remained at the interface of Hf0.6La0.4Ox/GaAs(100). On contrast, a smoother interface is observed between Hf0.6 …

Magnetic Properties And Magnetocaloric Effect Of Ndmn2-Xcuxsi2 Compounds, M F. Md Din, Jianli Wang, M Avdeev, Q F. Gu, R Zeng, S J. Campbell, S J. Kennedy, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Structural and magnetic properties of NdMn2−x Cu xSi2 compounds (x = 0-1.0) have been investigated by high intensity x-ray and resolution neutron diffraction (3-450 K), specific heat, dc magnetization, and differential scanning calorimetry measurements. Substitution of Cu for Mn leads to an increase in the lattice parameter a but a decrease in c at room temperature. Two magnetic phase transitions have been found for NdMn2−x Cu xSi2 compounds with TN for the antiferromagnetic ordering of Mn-sublatttice and TC for the Nd-sublattice ferromagnetic ordering, respectively. TC increases significantly with increasing Cu content from 36 K at x = 0 to 100 …

Magnetic Properties And Magnetocaloric Effect In Layered Ndmn 1.9v0.1si2, M F. Md Din, Jianli Wang, R Zeng, Shane Kennedy, S J. Campbell, S X. Dou

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The structural and magnetic properties of the compounds NdMn2-xVxSi2 have been studied by x-ray and high resolution neutron powder diffraction, specific heat, dc magnetization, and differential scanning calorimetry measurements over the temperature range 3-450 K. The Curie temperature and Néel temperature of layered NdMn1.9V0.1Si2 are been indicate at TC ~ 24 K and TN ~ 376 K respectively. The giant magnetocaloric effect (GMCE) around TC is found in layered NdMn1.9V0.1Si2 associated with first order magnetic transition from antiferromagnetic [AFil-type] to ferromagnetic [F(Nd)+Fmc]. This behaviorhas been confirmed as contribution of the magnetostructural coupling by using neutron powder diffraction. The magnetic entropy …

Modeling Transport Properties Of Inhomogeneous Superconductor-Metal Composites, A Borroto, L Del Rio, M Arronte, Tom Johansen, E Altshuler

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

We propose a model for a superconductor-metal composite that allows to derive intrinsic transport properties of the superconducting phase based on 2D images of its cross section, and a minimal set of parameters. The method is tested experimentally by using, as model composite, a "transversal bridge" made on a Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+x (BSCCO)-Ag multi-filamentary tape. It is shown that the approach allows to predict the measured I−⟨E⟩ curves of the filaments. In addition, one can determine the critical current anisotropy between the longitudinal and transverse directions of the Ag-BSCCO tape, and also of …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Yttrium silicates (Y-Si-O oxides), including Y2Si2O7, Y2SiO5, and Y4·67(SiO4)3O apatite, have attracted wide attentions from material scientists and engineers, because of their extensive polymorphisms and important roles as grain boundary phases in improving the high-temperature mechanical/thermal properties of Si3N4 and SiC ceramics. Recent interest in these materials has been renewed by their potential applications as high-temperature structural ceramics, oxidation protective coatings, and environmental barrier coatings (EBCs). The salient properties of Y-Si-O oxides are strongly related to their unique chemical bonds and …

The influence of different boron precursor powders on the critical current density of MgB2 superconductor with added Ni-Co-B nanoparticles is investigated. Different types of boron have different morphologies, particle sizes and impurity content, all of which have a strong impact on the critical current density (Jc). The boron samples investigated in this study include three different boron powders: semicrystalline boron (denoted as SC), with nanosized particles and high purity (99%) supplied from Specialty Materials, Inc. (USA); amorphous boron (denoted as AB), with nanosized particles and high purity (99%) supplied from Russia; and finally pure crystalline boron (denoted as CB), with …
