Fast And Accurate Semiautomatic Haptic Segmentation Of Brain Tumor In 3d Mri Images, Masoud Latifi-Navid, Murat Bi̇len, Erhan İlhan Konukseven, Mustafa Doğan, Adnan Altun
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this study, a novel virtual reality-based interactive method combined with the application of a graphical processing unit (GPU) is proposed for the semiautomatic segmentation of 3D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain. The key point of our approach is to use haptic force feedback guidance for the selection of seed points in a bounded volume with similar intensity and gradient. For the automatic determination of a bounded volume of segmentation in real time, parallel computation on the GPU is used. Automatic segmentation is applied in this adjustable bounded spherical volume with a variable diameter, which is controlled according …

A Real-Time American Sign Language Word Recognition System Based On Neural Networks And A Probabilistic Model, Neelesh Sarawate, Ming Chan. Leu, Cemi̇l Öz
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The development of an American Sign Language (ASL) word recognition system based on neural networks and a probabilistic model is presented. We use a CyberGlove and a Flock of Birds motion tracker to extract the gesture data. The finger joint angle data obtained from the sensory glove defines the handshape while the data from the motion tracker describes the trajectory of the hand movement. The four gesture features, namely handshape, hand position, hand orientation, and hand movement, are recognized using different functions that include backpropagation neural networks. The sequence of these features is used to generate a specific sign or …
7-Dof Haptic Device And Interface Design, Özgür Başer, Erhan İlhan Konukseven
7-Dof Haptic Device And Interface Design, Özgür Başer, Erhan İlhan Konukseven
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this study, the developed 7-DOF haptic device (HaP-7) and its virtual reality interface are presented. The design issues, design constraints, and alternative design configurations are discussed and the potential advantages of the HaP-7 are put forward. The kinematic model of the proposed device looks like a simplified human arm kinematic model. The redundant characteristic of the device provides larger workspace and allows for appropriate posture selection for the purposes of maximization of the rigidity, transparency and stability, while minimizing the inertia and power consumption in addition to the singularity and obstacle avoidance optimization.
