Elmer Fem-Dakota: A Unified Open-Source Computational Framework For Electromagnetics And Data Analytics, Anjali Sandip

Open-source electromagnetic design software, Elmer FEM, was interfaced with data analytics toolkit, Dakota. Furthermore, the coupled software was validated against a benchmark test. The interface developed provides a unified open-source computational framework for electromagnetics and data analytics. Its key features include uncertainty quantification, surrogate modelling and parameter studies. This framework enables a richer understanding of model predictions to better design electric machines in a time sensitive manner.

Zeolite (ZSM) catalysts are known to convert small-size alkenes, e.g., propene, into aromatic hydrocarbons, specifically benzene, toluene and xylenes (BTX), with both high efficiency and specificity. The efficiency of conventional and hierarchical nano-size ZSM-5 for propene aromatization was compared in this study using a Design of Experiments (DOE) approach combined with detailed product analysis. Contrary to our expectations, the former showed a significantly greater BTX yield than the latter. Analysis of the obtained data by DOE and additional experiments with soybean oil cracking using both catalyst types indicated that a reason for the observed reduced activity of nano-scale zeolites may …

The paper did a comparative analysis of the carbon emission and European Union Emission Trading Surcharges (EU ETS) of South African Airways (SAA) current fleet that used aviation jet A1 fuel and the same fleet if it had used a 25% bio-fuel ‘drop in’ for the European routes within the first quarter of the 2014 flying year (FY 14). Operational data in terms of the flight scheduled, aircraft type, total time enroute, route stage length, passenger estimates were obtained through SAA’s flight operations website.
