Energy-Efficient Multi-Rate Opportunistic Routing In Wireless Mesh Networks, Mohammad Ali Mansouri Khah, Neda Moghim, Nasrin Gholami, Sachin Shetty

VMASC Publications

Opportunistic or anypath routing protocols are focused on improving the performance of traditional routing in wireless mesh networks. They do so by leveraging the broadcast nature of the wireless medium and the spatial diversity of the network. Using a set of neighboring nodes, instead of a single specific node, as the next hop forwarder is a crucial aspect of opportunistic routing protocols, and the selection of the forwarder set plays a vital role in their performance. However, most opportunistic routing protocols consider a single transmission rate and power for the nodes, which limits their potential. To address this limitation, this …

A Novel Energy Consumption Model For Autonomous Mobile Robot, Gürkan Gürgöze, İbrahi̇m Türkoğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this study, a novel predictive energy consumption model has been developed to facilitate the development of tasks based on efficient energy consumption strategies in mobile robot systems. For the proposed energy consumption model, an advanced mathematical system model that takes into account all parameters during the motion of the mobile robot is created. The parameters of inclination, load, dynamic friction, wheel slip and speed-torque saturation limit, which are often neglected in existing models, are especially used in our model. Thus, the effects of unexpected disruptors on energy consumption in the real world environment are also taken into account. As …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The growing pollution in the environment and the negative shift in the global climate compel authorities to take action to protect the environment and human health. Transportation is one of the major contributors to this environmental decay. The harmful gases released to the air by the vehicles using petroleum fuel increase each day. One of the solutions is to make a gradual transition to electric vehicles. A major part of manufacturing an electric vehicle is to produce an efficient electric motor and battery for it. Reducing the manufacturing and operating costs of these components will result in reducing the overall …

Energy-Efficient Virtual Infrastructure Based Geo-Nested Routing Protocol Forwireless Sensor Networks, Baranidharan Varadharajan, Sivaradje Gopalakrishnan, Kiruthiga Varadharajan, Karthikeyan Mani, Sathishkumar Kutralingam

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The wireless sensor networks (WSN) are comprised of hundreds to thousands of compact and battery-operated sensor nodes. The deployed sensor nodes are widely used to sense the physical changes in the environment, which collect, aggregate, and transmit the information as data packets or static sink or monitoring station. Thedata transmission is very challenging under some extreme environments and applications. The efficient way of datatransmission is achieved by designing an energy-efficient routing protocol. The position of the sink nodes is broadcasted periodically to all other sensor nodes to forward the sensed data to the monitoring system or sink. The frequentbroadcasting of the …

Clustered Mobile Data Collection In Wsns: An Energy-Delay Trade-Of, İzzet Fati̇h Şentürk Jan 2021

Clustered Mobile Data Collection In Wsns: An Energy-Delay Trade-Of, İzzet Fati̇h Şentürk

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Wireless sensor networks enable monitoring remote areas with limited human intervention. However, the network connectivity between sensor nodes and the base station (BS) may not be always possible due to the limited transmission range of the nodes. In such a case, one or more mobile data collectors (MDCs) can be employed to visit nodes for data collection. If multiple MDCs are available, it is desirable to minimize the energy cost of mobility while distributing the cost among the MDCs in a fair manner. Despite availability of various clustering algorithms, there is no single fits all clustering solution when different requirements …

An Efficient Hybrid Data Gathering Algorithm Based On Multihop And Mobile Elements In Wsns, Mukhtar Ghaleb, Shamala Subramaniam, Mohamed Othman, Zuriati Zukarnain

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Data gathering is a focal task in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) that expends most of the sensor nodes' energy. Two factors that are considered essential in data gathering are latency and power consumption. The multihop data gathering approach proves that latency is minimized due to the speed of forwarding data to the base station. However, this may lead to increased power consumption and increased possibility of an emerging hotspot area. In contrast, data gathering based on a mobile element (ME) proves that power consumption is minimized due to avoiding relay data in extreme schemes. However, this may increase the latency …

Energy-Aware Stochastic Scheduling Model With Precedence Constraints On Dvfs-Enabled Processors, Mohammad Sajid, Zahid Raza

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The stochastic scheduling of precedence-constrained jobs on a heterogeneous processor is a challenging problem that requires solutions with one or more optimized QoS parameters. In this work, an energy-aware stochastic algorithm is proposed to schedule the batch of precedence-constrained jobs on heterogeneous DVFS-enabled processors with the objective of optimizing turnaround time and energy consumption. The processing time of tasks in all jobs and their precedence-constraint times are governed by independent probability distributions. The performance of the proposed stochastic algorithm is compared with SHEFT and ECS based on randomly generated batches of different sizes. The experimental study reveals that the proposed …

Evaluation Of Highly Efficient Distribution Transformer Design And Energy Standards Based On Load, James Sanguinetti

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Power distribution transformers have been prevalent in commercial building distribution systems since the inception of modern commercial electricity. Yet as more and more manufactures seek to improve transformer efficiencies by making changes to the design of the transformer itself, a fundamental concept may be overlooked - the impact transformer demand sizing has on power losses. When modern transformers are improperly sized for the application they will be installed for they are not being utilized at their optimum design loading range, which may impact operating efficiency.

This thesis will aim to test and evaluate modern day transformer design coupled with currently …

Continuous Monitoring Of Spatial Queries In Wireless Broadcast Environments, Kyriakos Mouratidis, Spiridon Bakiras, Dimitris Papadias Dec 2010

Continuous Monitoring Of Spatial Queries In Wireless Broadcast Environments, Kyriakos Mouratidis, Spiridon Bakiras, Dimitris Papadias

Kyriakos MOURATIDIS

Wireless data broadcast is a promising technique for information dissemination that leverages the computational capabilities of the mobile devices in order to enhance the scalability of the system. Under this environment, the data are continuously broadcast by the server, interleaved with some indexing information for query processing. Clients may then tune in the broadcast channel and process their queries locally without contacting the server. Previous work on spatial query processing for wireless broadcast systems has only considered snapshot queries over static data. In this paper, we propose an air indexing framework that 1) outperforms the existing (i.e., snapshot) techniques in …
