A New Species Of Nummulites Lamarck (Nummulitidae, Foraminiferida) From Central Turkey, Ali Deveciler Apr 2019

A New Species Of Nummulites Lamarck (Nummulitidae, Foraminiferida) From Central Turkey, Ali Deveciler

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

A new nummulitid species Nummulites sireli n. sp. is described from the middle Lutetian of the Çayraz section, North of Haymana, South of Ankara, Turkey. The new species is referred in to the N. distans group, of which six other species from the Haymana and Çiçekdağ regions of Central Anatolia are identifi ed.

The Role Of Enhanced Oil Recovery In The Upstream Petroleum Sector, A Case Study From Turkey, Emre Özgür Apr 2019

The Role Of Enhanced Oil Recovery In The Upstream Petroleum Sector, A Case Study From Turkey, Emre Özgür

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

The upstream petroleum sector issues still keep its popularity worldwide. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is an essential unconventional method of improving production in the petroleum sector. The EOR is gaining more importance in the sector. 2% of the global crude oil production is performed by EOR operations currently. The crude oil production of Turkey which is now in a decreasing trend is performed from old and mature oil fields. Sharp declines are expected for the oil production in the near future if new discoveries do not take place or enhanced oil production techniques are not performed. The average recovery rate …

Upper Cretaceous Volcaniclastic Complexes And Calcareous Plankton Biostratigraphy Inthe Western Pontides, Nw Turkey, Katharina Boehm, Michael Wagreich, Erik Wolfgring, Okan Tüysüz, Susanne Gier, İsmai̇l Ömer Yilmaz Jan 2019

Upper Cretaceous Volcaniclastic Complexes And Calcareous Plankton Biostratigraphy Inthe Western Pontides, Nw Turkey, Katharina Boehm, Michael Wagreich, Erik Wolfgring, Okan Tüysüz, Susanne Gier, İsmai̇l Ömer Yilmaz

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

This study describes and interprets Upper Cretaceous volcaniclastics interbedded with hemipelagic to pelagic limestones, marls, and turbidites from the Western Pontides, northwestern Turkey. The Dereköy Formation, the Unaz Formation (red pelagic limestone unit), and the Cambu Formation can be distinguished, overlain by the turbiditic Akveren Formation. Biostratigraphic ages from the predominantly volcaniclastic Dereköy Formation indicate Turonian (Dicarinella concavata planktonic foraminifera zone, CC13/UC8-9 nannofossil zones) to middle/late Santonian ages up to CC17/UC13. The Unaz Formation, deposited during the late Santonian (UC13, Dicarinella asymetrica Zone), is overlain by the volcaniclastic Cambu Formation of latest Santonian (CC17b/UC13) to early/middle Campanian (CC20/UC15a) age. However, …

Microborings As Indication Of Cryptic Life Modes In The Foraminifer Orbitoides:Maastrichtian Sediments Of The Haymana And Nallıhan Districts (Ankara, Turkey), Muhi̇tti̇n Görmüş, Huri̇ye Demi̇rcan, Yusuf Kağan Kadioğlu, Fuzuli̇ Yağmurlu, Muhammed Sami̇ Us Jan 2019

Microborings As Indication Of Cryptic Life Modes In The Foraminifer Orbitoides:Maastrichtian Sediments Of The Haymana And Nallıhan Districts (Ankara, Turkey), Muhi̇tti̇n Görmüş, Huri̇ye Demi̇rcan, Yusuf Kağan Kadioğlu, Fuzuli̇ Yağmurlu, Muhammed Sami̇ Us

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Widespread Maastrichtian siliciclastics and carbonates cropping out in the Haymana (S Ankara) and Nallıhan (NW Ankara) districts in the northwest and central Anatolia basins include rich Orbitoides occurrences. Microborings in the Orbitoides tests are interesting to notify. In this study, the details of their morphologic structures were investigated. Microborings were analyzed in more than 650 equatorial thin sections of the Orbitoides tests and 100 hard rock thin sections. The abundance of microborings increases in the siliciclastics towards the Cretaceous/Palaeogene boundary (K/Pg). They were identified as Maeandropolydora osmaneliensis Nielsen and Görmüş, Maeandropolydora isp. Curvichnus semorbis Nielsen, Oichnus simplex Bromley, Oichnus isp. …

Blue Sky At Midnight - Earthquake Lightning, Neil Whitehead, Ülkü Ulusoy Jan 2019

Blue Sky At Midnight - Earthquake Lightning, Neil Whitehead, Ülkü Ulusoy

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Earthquake light, emerging from the ground as flashes at night (neglecting other more minor forms), usually has a white hemispherical center and blue outer part. The blue resembles daytime blue sky. Its existence is increasingly verified, with about 80 videos on the web to mid-2017. However, the light must be differentiated from power-grid faults, so sound/color/form/length criteria were developed in this paper through examination of many videos. Light should be coseismic (i.e. when the S-waves arrive), hemispherical, not during a storm, less than 1 s long, without fire or smoke, and without many rapid color changes. Warnings about camera artifacts …

Devonian-Carboniferous Brachiopods And Biostratigraphic Findings From The Kangal Phyllite-Slate Formation (Greenschist), Sivas, Turkey, Cazi̇be Sayar, Ali̇ Seydi̇ Gülteki̇n, Mustafa Si̇mav Bargu, Esra Alkan Jan 2019

Devonian-Carboniferous Brachiopods And Biostratigraphic Findings From The Kangal Phyllite-Slate Formation (Greenschist), Sivas, Turkey, Cazi̇be Sayar, Ali̇ Seydi̇ Gülteki̇n, Mustafa Si̇mav Bargu, Esra Alkan

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Kangal Phyllite-Slate Formation forms the basement rocks in Kangal-Çetinkaya-Alacahan-Divriği (Sivas). These late Paleozoic phyllite-slate associations occupy a large area, possibly composed of Early Paleozoic sediments in its lower part. The lower levels (Bakırtepe Metaquartzite Member; 0-500 m) and uppermost levels comprise the Düzce Recrystallized Limestone Member (0-25 m). The lower boundary is invisible and the upper boundary is unconformably overlain by the Kıratgediği Limestone (late Jurassic- early Cretaceous). The studied brachiopod fauna, about 400 specimens, was collected from the 150-m-thick uppermost part of the greenschist sequences in the Kulluk Hill area, Elkondu village, 25 km east of Kangal. Some …

Frequency-Dependent Body-Q And Coda-Q In Karlıova Triple Junction And Its Vicinity,Eastern Turkey, Alper Demi̇rci̇ Jan 2019

Frequency-Dependent Body-Q And Coda-Q In Karlıova Triple Junction And Its Vicinity,Eastern Turkey, Alper Demi̇rci̇

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

A dataset obtained from six broadband stations of 111 small- to moderate-sized local events that occurred between 2010 and 2018 was analyzed to reveal the frequency-dependent seismic body (body-Q) and coda (coda-Q) wave attenuation characteristics of three tectonic branches of the Karlıova Triple Junction: the Varto Fault Zone (VFZ), North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ), and East Anatolian Fault Zone. The magnitude range was between 2.8 and 6.1 with shallow (
