A Novel Morphological Type Of Siderite In The Jamesonite Paragenesis From Herja (Maramures County, Romania), Virgil Ghiurcă, Dana Pop Mar 2012

A Novel Morphological Type Of Siderite In The Jamesonite Paragenesis From Herja (Maramures County, Romania), Virgil Ghiurcă, Dana Pop

Studia UBB Geologia

The loose jamesonite felted masses found in several vein-type Miocene ore deposits in Romania, at Herja in particular, host a very rich and peculiar mineral assemblage. This study concerns a novel morphological type of loose siderite crystals identified in this paragenesis. Additional to their macroscopic and microscopic investigation, powder X-ray diffraction (XRPD) analysis was carried out. Based on XRPD patterns, some pseudoxehagonal prisms, up to 10 mm in size, black to dark brown in color, with rugged surfaces and microscopic mosaic-like structures, were proved to be siderite. The described morphological type of siderite represents a novelty for Herja ore deposits, …

Contributions To The Study Of The Alluvial Gold From Valea Pianului Area (Alba District), Horea Bedelean, Aura Bedelean Mar 2012

Contributions To The Study Of The Alluvial Gold From Valea Pianului Area (Alba District), Horea Bedelean, Aura Bedelean

Studia UBB Geologia

Pianu de Sus area (Alba district) is located in the north-eastern part of the Sebeş Mountains. The region consists of metamorphic (Sebeş-Lotru group), magmatic (granites and quartziferous porphyries and pegmatites) and sedimentary deposits (Senonian, Neogene and Quaternary age). Granulometric studies, separations of the heavy fractions, optic and electronic microscopic investigations were performed on the alluvial deposits and detritic sedimentary formations. The analysed gold shows tipical morphology for two grains types: primary and secondary. From a chemical point of view was evidenced electron microprobe The chemical analyses, performed by using electron microprobe, shows a high amount of gold and silver.

First Year Morphological Evolution Of An Artificial Berm At Fort Myers Beach, Florida, Katherine Brutsche, Ping Wang Jan 2012

First Year Morphological Evolution Of An Artificial Berm At Fort Myers Beach, Florida, Katherine Brutsche, Ping Wang

Geology Faculty Publications

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) documents the sediment characteristics and first year morphological evolution of an artificial berm placed just offshore in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, based on a series of field data collection periods during the first year after the berm construction.
