Implementation Strategies For Modeling And Simulation In Military Organizations, Cody Lynn Taylor Jan 2021

Implementation Strategies For Modeling And Simulation In Military Organizations, Cody Lynn Taylor

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Some IT project managers working for U.S. military organizations are struggling to implement modern modeling and simulation (M&S) technology. Implementation strategies are needed to help IT practitioners deliver meaningful simulations and models that ultimately help senior leaders make logical and science-based decisions. Grounded in the extended technology acceptance model, the purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study was to explore strategies some IT project managers supporting U.S. military organizations use to implement modern M&S technology. The participants included 10 civil servants who successfully implemented modeling and simulation technology for military organizations located in the United States eastern region. Data was collected …

Predicting How People Vote From How They Tweet, Rao B. Vinnakota Jan 2019

Predicting How People Vote From How They Tweet, Rao B. Vinnakota

Senior Projects Spring 2019

In 2016 Donald Trump stunned the nation and not a single pollster predicted the outcome. For the last few decades, pollsters have relied on phone banking as their main source of information. There is reason to believe that this method does not present the complete picture it once did due to several factors--less landline usage, a younger and more active electorate, and the rise of social media. Social media specifically has grown in prominence and become a forum for political debate. This project quantitatively analyzes political twitter data and leverages machine learning techniques such as Naive-Bayes to model election results. …

Multi-Step Tokenization Of Automated Clearing House Payment Transactions, Privin Alexander Nov 2017

Multi-Step Tokenization Of Automated Clearing House Payment Transactions, Privin Alexander

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Since its beginnings in 1974, the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network has grown into one of the largest, safest, and most efficient payment systems in the world. An ACH transaction is an electronic funds transfer between bank accounts using a batch processing system.

Currently, the ACH Network moves almost $43 trillion and 25 billion electronic financial transactions each year. With the increasing movement toward an electronic, interconnected and mobile infrastructure, it is critical that electronic payments work safely and efficiently for all users. ACH transactions carry sensitive data, such as a consumer's name, account number, tax identification number, account holder …

A Gis-Centric Approach For Modeling Vessel Management Behavior System Data To Determine Oyster Vessel Behavior On Public Oyster Grounds In Louisiana, David X. Gallegos Dec 2014

A Gis-Centric Approach For Modeling Vessel Management Behavior System Data To Determine Oyster Vessel Behavior On Public Oyster Grounds In Louisiana, David X. Gallegos

University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

The satellite communications system called the Vessel Management System was used to provide geospatial data on oyster fishing over the nearly 1.7 million acres of the public water bottoms in Louisiana. An algorithm to analyze the data was developed in order to model vessel behaviors including docked, gearing, fishing and traveling. Vessel speeds were calculated via the Haversine formula at small and large intervals and compared to derive a measure of linearity. The algorithm was implemented into software using Python and inserted into a PostgreSQL database supporting geospatial information. Queries were developed to obtain reports on vessel activities and daily …

Oyster Sustainability Modeling As A Public Resource, Nathan A. Cooper Aug 2013

Oyster Sustainability Modeling As A Public Resource, Nathan A. Cooper

University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

A simulation algorithm based on biological references points proposed by Powell and Klink (2007) is implemented for predicting the total allowable catch of eastern oysters (Crassostrea virginica) from Louisiana’s coast. The model accepts initial per-square-meter shell mass and oyster size distributions as input. Fishing effort is provided as fractions removed of each resource for each month of the season. The model outputs the expected remaining shell mass and harvests of sack and seed oysters after discrete fishing months. Oyster mortality credits the shell budget, while fishing fractions debit oyster and shell resources. Surviving oysters grow larger along a …
