Self-Efficacy In Information Security: A Mixed Methods Study Of Deaf End-Users, Kyle Murbach

Masters Theses & Doctoral Dissertations

This explanatory sequential mixed methods study focuses on gaining an overall understanding of the potential variances in self-efficacy in information security and security practice behavior in the deaf population. Very little is understood about the deaf experience when engaging in security practices and their confidence levels in doing so. Due to the fastpaced nature of cyber security and its many facets, the human factor plays a crucial role in the success of cyber security. It is important to understand the potential implications of variances that may affect a deaf end-user’s security practice behavior to be able to provide more effective …

Instructional Designers As Project Managers: A Phenomenology, La Keshia Lynn Nall Jan 2019

Instructional Designers As Project Managers: A Phenomenology, La Keshia Lynn Nall

CCE Theses and Dissertations

The ability to effectively manage learning design projects, consult with stakeholders (such as sponsors, subject matter experts, and learners), and direct projects to completion is a vital part of an instructional designer’s role. Although the need for project management education and experience is reiterated in the literature and in cross-industry instructional designer (ID) job postings, it was unclear how these professionals acquired and used project management skills and tools in their profession because project management is not a focus in many higher education programs intended to prepare instructional designers.

The goal of this phenomenological study was to understand the lived …

Usability Challenges With Insulin Pump Devices In Diabetes Care: What Trainers Observe With First-Time Pump Users, Helen Birkmann Hernandez Jan 2019

Usability Challenges With Insulin Pump Devices In Diabetes Care: What Trainers Observe With First-Time Pump Users, Helen Birkmann Hernandez

CCE Theses and Dissertations

Insulin pumps are designed for the self-management of diabetes mellitus in patients and are known for their complexity of use. Pump manufacturers engage trainers to teach patients how to use the devices correctly to control the symptoms of their disease. Usability research related to insulin pumps and other infusion pumps with first-time users as participants has centered on the relationship between user interface design and the effectiveness of task completion. According to prior research, the characteristics of system behavior in a real life environment remain elusive. A suitable approach to acquire information about potential usability problems encountered by first-time users …

Individualized Instruction As A Faculty Training Strategy For Technology Integration, Jennifer Merritt Jan 2017

Individualized Instruction As A Faculty Training Strategy For Technology Integration, Jennifer Merritt

CCE Theses and Dissertations

It is inevitable that campus-based higher education will adopt some form of a hybrid learning approach. For schools and their faculty members, this means the acknowledgment and acceptance of these changes are required. Campus-based higher education faculty members wish to change how they teach courses due to societal demands to better suit the next generation of students. Initially, schools began offering new technology to faculty that wished to use the technology; however, over the years, due to the demands of competition with other schools and next generation, tech-savvy students entering academia, schools are starting to require the use of technology …

An Exploration Of Baby Boomer Mass Retirement Effects On Information Systems Organizations, Nithyanandam Mathiyazhagan Mathiyazhagan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The potential knowledge loss from Baby Boomer generation employee retirements can negatively affect information systems organizations. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenology study was to explore the lived experiences of the leaders and managers of information systems organizations as they tried to maintain operational continuity after Baby Boomer worker retirements. The impact of this issue was the operational continuity after the Baby Boomer worker retirement. The social impact of this issue was the knowledge loss events that might result in business loss or even bankruptcy. McElroy's knowledge life cycle model was the conceptual framework for this study that included knowledge …

Using Mobile Phones For Teaching And Learning In Chinese Traditional Undergraduate Education, Guchun Huang Jan 2016

Using Mobile Phones For Teaching And Learning In Chinese Traditional Undergraduate Education, Guchun Huang

CCE Theses and Dissertations

Mobile learning is the new global trend of educational innovation with information and communication technologies. Mobile phones are one major type of mobile technology that can be used for mobile learning. As a highly popular possession among Chinese undergraduate students, as well as among general population, mobile phone usage for learning purposes in the context of Chinese traditional undergraduate education warrants attention from both the education practitioners and researchers. However, very few institutional efforts of promoting mobile phone integrated learning have been reported within the scope of Chinese traditional undergraduate education. A qualitative phenomenological research study was conducted with the …

The Lived Experience Of Young Adult Burn Survivors' Use Of Social Media, Marie S. Giordano Jun 2014

The Lived Experience Of Young Adult Burn Survivors' Use Of Social Media, Marie S. Giordano

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to illuminate the meaning of social media use by young adult burn survivors. Five females and four males, aged 20-25, who sustained burns > 25%, were interviewed. Van Manen's (1999) phenomenological methodology provided the framework for this study. The meaning of the context of the lived experience is described in the five essential themes of identity, connectivity, social support, making meaning, and privacy. These young adult burn survivors, having experienced the traumatic effects of a burn during adolescence, use social media as a way of expressing their identity, while being cautious about privacy. Part …

An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Of Telehealth Champions, Ragan A. Dubose-Morris Jan 2014

An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Of Telehealth Champions, Ragan A. Dubose-Morris

CCE Theses and Dissertations

The implementation of telehealth applications is resource intensive and fraught with challenges unique to the people and places involved. The use of telehealth to provide clinical care to patients, educate patients and providers, and conduct research studies to advance medical science has been shown to positively affect issues of access and the quality of care. Previous research has focused on the use of specific technologies, known barriers to adoption and diffusion, and the general efficacy of these applications. Few studies have researched the role champions play in the deployment and operation of telehealth networks. The researcher proposed conducting an interpretative …

The Meaning Of Music-Making For Computer Scientists With A Serious Musing-Making Avocation: A Phenomenological Case Study, Varda Shaked Jan 2013

The Meaning Of Music-Making For Computer Scientists With A Serious Musing-Making Avocation: A Phenomenological Case Study, Varda Shaked

Educational Studies Dissertations

This study explores the meaning of music-making in the lives of computer scientists who play classical music as their serious avocation. In particular, it investigates their tendencies and capacities to concurrently engage in two such distinct disciplines on a regular basis, by exploring the cognitive, social, and cultural aspects of their concurrent engagement. While current research literature approaches the affinities between mathematicians/scientists and musicians through the presence of mathematical properties of music and through anecdotal evidence involving known persona and their innovations, this study provides a deeper look at the individuals who combine such worlds, in order to better understand …

This study examined the process teachers used to change their pedagogy to deliver effective instruction using Web 2.0 tools. A phenomenological approach examined the "lived experiences" of seven secondary teachers through in-depth interviews giving this study an in-depth qualitative analysis of teachers and technology.

The widening digital divide between teachers and students causes a barrier for educators trying to reach their students. Students are raised with pervasive technology, while teachers are using Web 2.0 tools on …
