Review: Steve: The Art Museum Social Tagging Project., Mark Mcbride
Mark F McBride
The Steve Museum is a social tagging project created by volunteers from art museums and galleries. The main goal is to create user generated descriptions for works of art, because we all view, experience, and describe art differently.

Application Of Triz Principles In Software Concepts, Umakant Mishra

The Inventive Principles of TRIZ are not only applicable to mechanical or technical field; they are also applicable to Software solutions. Most of the 40 principles are easy to learn, but the question arises where to apply and how to apply. This article shows some simple examples of applying TRIZ principles.
Some people may ask, the solutions in this article are all known, what is the use of trying out TRIZ Principles on them. My answer is the art of problem solving is like learning a bicycle. If you are capable of riding the cycle on a known road, there …

Development Of Simulation-Based Environment For Multi-Echelon Cyclic Planning And Optimisation, Galina Merkuryeva, Liana Napalkova
Liana Napalkova
This paper focuses on the development of simulation-based environment for multi-echelon cyclic planning and optimisation in the product maturity phase. It is based on integration of analytical and simulation techniques. Analytical techniques are used to obtain initial planning decisions under conditions of stochastic demand and lead time, whereas simulation techniques extend these conditions to backlogging and capacity constraints. Simulation is used to analyse and improve cyclical decisions received from the analytical model. The proposed environment includes four components, such as database, process, optimisation and procedural one. Database component defines a supply chain network and its input parameters. Procedural component generates …

We propose a similarity measure based on a Spatial-color Mixture of Gaussians (SMOG) appearance model for particle filters. This improves on the popular similarity measure based on color histograms because it considers not only the colors in a region but also the spatial layout of the colors. Hence, the SMOG-based similarity measure is more discriminative. To efficiently compute the parameters for SMOG, we propose a new technique with which the computational time is greatly reduced. We also extend our method by integrating multiple cues to increase the reliability and robustness. Experiments show that our method can successfully track objects in …

Comparing Taiwanese And American Wow Player Cultures In Terms Of Achievement, C. T. Sun, Chien Hsun Chen, J. L. Hsieh, H. Lin

When analyzing Taiwanese and American market separation and online gaming cultures, sooner or later researchers hear the assertion that players in Taiwan emphasize achievement and players in the US emphasize recreation. This belief may explain why a significant number of Taiwanese World of Warcraft (WoW) players claim that they would rather connect to North American game servers to play. To determine the truth (if any) of this belief, we investigated behaviors, tendencies, and motivations between Taiwanese and American WoW players using data collected via WoW’s unique clientdesigned user interface feature. Data on level upgrade efficiency and participation in guild-organized raids …
Bound Optimization For Parallel Quadratic Sieving Using Large Prime Variations, Andrew G. West
Bound Optimization For Parallel Quadratic Sieving Using Large Prime Variations, Andrew G. West
Andrew G. West
The Quadratic Sieve (QS) factorization algorithm is a powerful means to perform prime decompositions that combines number theory, linear algebra, and brute processing power. Created by Carl Pomerance in 1985, it is the second fastest general purpose factorization method as of this writing, behind only the Number Field Sieve.
We describe an efficient QS implementation which is accessible to an undergraduate audience. The majority of papers on this topic rely on complex mathematical notation as their primary means of explanation. Instead, we attempt to combine math, discussion, and examples to promote understanding. Additionally, few authors ever present implementation level detail. …

State-Of-The-Art: Interaktion In Erweiterten Realitäten, Philipp Schaer, Marco Thum
Philipp Schaer

Ontology Development For Context-Sensitive Decision Support, Shah Jahan Miah

Semantics have become acceptable techniques for data integration, data interoperability and data visualization in many software engineering domains and web developments over the past few years. This paper describes a software development where semantic ontology techniques have been used for developing a generic knowledge model applicable across rural industries. This technique enables us to outline a single access point for building end-user specific knowledge based systems. We have called the new solution prototype an End-User Enabled Design Environment (EUEDE) where the knowledge components from the problem ontology is used in building specific decision systems that are contextsensitive to end-user factors. …

Application Of Ansys In Seismic Response Analysis Of Constructing Of High Buildings, Yang Xiaojun
Xiao-Jun Yang
The dynamic feature of high buildings is discussed in the present study with the application of ANSYS,the large finite element analysis software, aimed at the analysis of dynamic response of high buildings.Based on the case of a 15一story-building,a model of beam and shell 3-D finite element structure is built and the frequency of structure and the mode of vibration are computed in the study;furthermore, the structural dynamic response is discussed under different seismic waves with the use of the history analysis method. The results show that the more intense the seismic wave is,the bigger is the dynamic response of the buildings. The information can …
Google's Law, Greg Lastowka
Google's Law, Greg Lastowka

Google has become, for the majority of Americans, the index of choice for online information. Through dynamically generated results pages keyed to a near-infinite variety of search terms, Google steers our thoughts and our learning online. It tells us what words mean, what things look like, where to buy things, and who and what is most important to us. Google’s control over “results” constitutes an awesome ability to set the course of human knowledge. As this paper will explain, fortunes are won and lost based on Google’s results pages, including the fortunes of Google itself. Because Google’s results are so …
Michael Wheeler: Reconstructing The Cognitive World: The Next Step, Leslie Marsh
Michael Wheeler: Reconstructing The Cognitive World: The Next Step, Leslie Marsh
Leslie Marsh
Michael Wheeler is the latest in a new wave of philosophical theorists that fall within a loose coalition of anti-representationalism (or anti-Cartesianism): Dynamical –, Embodied –, Extended –, Distributed –, and Situated –, theories of cognition (DEEDS an apt acronym). Against this background, cognition for Wheeler is, or should be, a more ecumenical concept. This ecumenical approach would still be amenable to making theoretical distinctions, the central one being the notion of offline and online styles of intelligence, a distinction that makes conceptual space for another closely related notion, that of propositional knowledge (knowing that) and tacit knowledge (knowing how).
