Finding Optimal Opa-Iblc Derivatized Amino Acid Analysis Parameters With Three-Dimensional Fluorometric Scans For Hplc Method Validation, Aaron Jacobs

Honors Theses

Three-dimensional fluorometric scans of OPA-IBLC derivatized glutamic acid and histidine solutions revealed that decreasing concentration maintained maximum λem but produced different maximum λex. In pH 0.4 M sodium borate buffer (pH 10.4), 50 μM derivatized amino acid solutions had maxima around 350- to 450-nm λex-λem where 12.5 μM solutions had maxima around 230- to 450-nm λex- λem. In the lower concentration, the λex peak at 230 nm was about 80% higher than 350 nm. Thus, collecting spectra with 230 nm λex would provide better LOD and LOQ. Results inform HPLC standard concentrations since differential quenching effects may produce non-linear calibration …

Detection And Characterization Of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol And Novel Synthetic Cannabinoid Metabolites Using Human Liver Microsomes, Seema Murugan May 2020

Detection And Characterization Of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol And Novel Synthetic Cannabinoid Metabolites Using Human Liver Microsomes, Seema Murugan

Honors Theses

Marijuana and synthetic cannabinoids are the most commonly used and trafficked illicit drug. ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary active compound in marijuana. Synthetic cannabinoids were created as a method to study the effects of cannabinoids on the endocannabinoid system, which consists of endogenous cannabinoids, cannabinoid receptors, and the synthetic and degrading enzymes responsible for the synthesis and degradation of endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids activate the same receptors as endocannabinoids. Synthetic cannabinoids gained popularity as recreational drugs due to their ability to avoid detection. Synthetic cannabinoids have been found to have a greater binding affinity to the cannabinoid CB1 receptor …

A Study On The Modifications Of [2.2]Paracyclophane And Their Effects On The Enantioselectivity Of The Copper Catalyzed Cyclopropanation Reaction, Yousef Dawoud May 2019

A Study On The Modifications Of [2.2]Paracyclophane And Their Effects On The Enantioselectivity Of The Copper Catalyzed Cyclopropanation Reaction, Yousef Dawoud

Honors Theses

The use of chiral [2.2]paracyclophane Schiff-base ligands has been shown to induce enantioselectivity in the copper catalyzed cyclopropanation of styrene with diazoesters. 1 Previous research by Dr. Masterson tested Schiff-base ligands based on 4- amino[2.2]paracyclophane with moderate enantioselectivity. In this project, the Schiff-base N- salicylidene-4-amino[2.2]paracyclophane, was modified by way of Grignard addition to the imine carbon and its enantioselective properties were explored with the copper catalyzed cyclopropanation. The methyl Grignard addition to N- salicylidene-4-amino[2.2]paracyclophane was successful in producing the amino alcohol and the amino alcohol was characterized. The amino alcohol was produced from the R enantiomer of the Schiff-base and …

A Method For The Determination Of Purity Of Pnu-10483 Bulk Drug By Capillary Zone Electrophoresis, Gavin Gibson Apr 1998

A Method For The Determination Of Purity Of Pnu-10483 Bulk Drug By Capillary Zone Electrophoresis, Gavin Gibson

Honors Theses

In this investigation, a method was developed for the determination of purity of the drug PNU-10483 using the technique of capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE). CZE was seen as a potential alternative to the formerly used procedure of ion-pair reversed phase highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Nearly five years earlier, a similar study was performed, in which an attempt was made to develop a method that used CZE to determine the purity of bulk drug and the potency of drug tablets. While this development was mostly successful, sporadically unpredictable results reduced the method's overall viability. These outliers were thought to be caused …
