Middle Savannah River: An A/R/Tographic Ecopedagogical Ethnography Experimenting With Rhizomatic Perspectives, Lisa Augustine-Chizmar

This research is an experiment in perspective. Using the four commonplaces (Schwab, 1978), I practiced letting the Savannah River teach me what there is to know about the water, the land, the people, and the other entities that depend on ki through artistic, ethnographic, and ecopedagogical lenses. The ethnographic findings describe the social actors that depend on ki and give a voice to the River. The a/r/tographic findings display the River on a canvas map through two hundred years using paint, clay, photography, video, abstract acrylics, and fabric. The triangular numbers is a series of number that add the natural numbers. Parabolic shapes emerge when this series is placed on a lattice, or imposed with a limited number of columns that causes the sequence to continue on the next row when it has reached the kth column. We examine these patterns and construct proofs that explain their behavior. We build off of this to see what happens to the patterns when there is not a limited number of columns, and we formulate the graphs as musical patterns on a staff, using each column as a line or space …

This collection consists of oral history interviews of people who grew up living on the Ogeechee River and its watershed. The interviews were conducted from 2016-2017 for Phase I of the Ogeechee Project, but the topics span a broad range of time - including family lore and artifacts from Native American settlement and the Colonial Period through today. Materials include photographs and written documents with audio recordings making the bulk of the collection. Materials were originally collected by c.a.s.e. Consulting Services for the Ogeechee Riverkeeper organization.
