How Artificial Intelligence Is Impacting Manufacturing Industry, Deepak Srinivasan, Maitreyi Ramesh Swaroop, Balaji Rajaram, Sri Krishan Iyer

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In this survey, we study the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on manufacturing sector. AI methods can be utilized to make new thoughts several ways: by delivering novel mixes of wellknown thoughts; by investigating the capability of theoretical spaces; and by making changes that empower the era of unexplored thoughts. AI will have less trouble in displaying the era of new thoughts than in automating their assessment. We describe the advances that have been made on AI in manufacturing industry. We close with how to overcome the issues in this area.

Knowing How: A Computational Approach, Joseph A. Roman Apr 2017

Knowing How: A Computational Approach, Joseph A. Roman

Student Publications

With advances in Artificial Intelligences being achieved through the use of Artificial Neural Networks, we are now at the point where computers are able to do tasks that were previously only able to be accomplished by humans. These advancements must cause us to reconsider our previous understanding of how people come to know how to do a particular task. In order to unpack this question, I will first look to an account of knowing how presented by Jason Stanley in his book Know How. I will then look towards criticisms of this view before using evidence presented by the existence …

Exploring Algorithms To Recognize Similar Board States In Arimaa, Malik Khaleeque Ahmed Feb 2017

Exploring Algorithms To Recognize Similar Board States In Arimaa, Malik Khaleeque Ahmed

Theses and Dissertations

The game of Arimaa was invented as a challenge to the field of game-playing artificial intelligence, which had grown somewhat haughty after IBM's supercomputer Deep Blue trounced world champion Kasparov at chess. Although Arimaa is simple enough for a child to learn and can be played with an ordinary chess set, existing game-playing algorithms and techniques have had a difficult time rising up to the challenge of defeating the world's best human Arimaa players, mainly due to the game's impressive branching factor. This thesis introduces and analyzes new algorithms and techniques that attempt to recognize similar board states based on …

Ai Education: Open-Access Educational Resources On Ai, Todd W. Neller

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Open-access AI educational resources are vital to the quality of the AI education we offer. Avoiding the reinvention of wheels is especially important to us because of the special challenges of AI Education. AI could be said to be “the really interesting miscellaneous pile of Computer Science”. While “artificial” is well-understood to encompass engineered artifacts, “intelligence” could be said to encompass any sufficiently difficult problem as would require an intelligent approach and yet does not fall neatly into established Computer Science subdisciplines. Thus AI consists of so many diverse topics that we would be hard-pressed to individually create quality learning …

The Disciple: A Talking Platformer, Benjamin Sernau Jan 2017

The Disciple: A Talking Platformer, Benjamin Sernau

Senior Projects Spring 2017

Working in Unity to create a two-dimensional platformer with a Natural Language Generation system, I have considered a new way in which Artificial Intelligence may affect gameplay. The resulting project, The Disciple, takes input from the environment of the game and offers successfully a sentence relevant to what occurs within the game's world. The sentences this system generates are diverse enough so that, while the Natural Language Generation system may restate what it has said, already, it does not utter the same sentence twice in a row. Often, the Natural Language Generation system selects a phrase I have written from …

An Introduction To The Theory And Applications Of Bayesian Networks, Anant Jaitha Jan 2017

An Introduction To The Theory And Applications Of Bayesian Networks, Anant Jaitha

CMC Senior Theses

Bayesian networks are a means to study data. A Bayesian network gives structure to data by creating a graphical system to model the data. It then develops probability distributions over these variables. It explores variables in the problem space and examines the probability distributions related to those variables. It conducts statistical inference over those probability distributions to draw meaning from them. They are good means to explore a large set of data efficiently to make inferences. There are a number of real world applications that already exist and are being actively researched. This paper discusses the theory and applications of …

Designing 2d Interfaces For 3d Gesture Retrieval Utilizing Deep Learning, Spencer Southard Jan 2017

Designing 2d Interfaces For 3d Gesture Retrieval Utilizing Deep Learning, Spencer Southard

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Gesture retrieval can be defined as the process of retrieving the correct meaning of the hand movement from a pre-assembled gesture dataset. The purpose of the research discussed here is to design and implement a gesture interface system that facilitates retrieval for an American Sign Language gesture set using a mobile device. The principal challenge discussed here will be the normalization of 2D gestures generated from the mobile device interface and the 3D gestures captured from video samples into a common data structure that can be utilized by deep learning networks. This thesis covers convolutional neural networks and auto encoders …

A New Reinforcement Learning Algorithm With Fixed Exploration For Semi-Markov Decision Processes, Angelo Michael Encapera Jan 2017

A New Reinforcement Learning Algorithm With Fixed Exploration For Semi-Markov Decision Processes, Angelo Michael Encapera

Masters Theses

"Artificial intelligence or machine learning techniques are currently being widely applied for solving problems within the field of data analytics. This work presents and demonstrates the use of a new machine learning algorithm for solving semi-Markov decision processes (SMDPs). SMDPs are encountered in the domain of Reinforcement Learning to solve control problems in discrete-event systems. The new algorithm developed here is called iSMART, an acronym for imaging Semi-Markov Average Reward Technique. The algorithm uses a constant exploration rate, unlike its precursor R-SMART, which required exploration decay. The major difference between R-SMART and iSMART is that the latter uses, in addition …

Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning techniques are expected to reshape the nature of the working environment in many economic sectors through the automation of many white collar jobs. This technological breakthrough poses threats of job obsolescence in several industries, particularly for a labor abundant country such as the Philippines. With human capital as one of its largest resources, the services sector is a major contributor to the country’s economy, contributing around 60% of the total gross domestic product and employing about 22.8 million workers (Philippine Statistics Authority, 2017).
