It has been found across current studies and evaluations of stroke care and patient outcomes that there is a disparity in disability and mortality between male and female patients who have experienced stroke. The aforementioned studies did not identify the cause of this disparity, although a number of hypotheses for this phenomenon were provided. This study then conducted a preliminary survey of 130 participants, both men and women, aged 18-80 years old, to evaluate potential barriers to accessing stroke care and receiving treatment effectively. Introduction

Neurologic insults such as strokes and traumatic brain injuries (TBI) affect over 1 million Americans every year. The lack of current knowledge informing accurate prognoses causes victims and their loved ones distress, and is a focus of much research. The purpose of this study was to determine whether patient age at time of insult could predict change in functional outcomes during inpatient rehabilitation.

Methods

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is evaluate the APRN care model utilized for stroke patients by examining the pre and post impact on outcomes of the stroke clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), patterns of service use, stroke patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction.

METHODS: This study was a single-center, pre-post implementation retrospective study of the impact for the stroke APRN care model on the stroke patient population at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. The sample consisted of 145 patients for the pre-implementation period, March 2012 to August 2012, and 202 patients for the post-implementation period, March 2014 to August 2014.
