A Pilot Study To Investigate Concerns In Patients Undergoing Neck Dissection Surgery, Daniel Sundar Raj Arulananda Doss

Abstract:

This study investigates concerns in patients undergoing neck dissection surgery. Forty patients were recruited at Pre-surgery, Discharge and 1-month Post-surgery. The Patient Concerns Inventory - Level of Importance questionnaire (PCI-LOI), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), Neck Dissection Impairment Index (NDII) and the University of Washington - Quality of Life questionnaire (UWQOL) were used.

The study identified "Anxiety" at Pre-surgery and "Appearance" at Discharge and 1-month Post-surgery as the important patient concerns. Patients’ concerns were found to change over time. The purpose of this study is to identify and describe themes and factors that can lead to an individual experiencing a good old age. Children and adolescents diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) demonstrate significant difficulty with academic and behavioral functioning. This, in turn, can lead to lower educational attainment and vocational achievement, which has serious long-term consequences and costs to individuals and society (Barkley, 2002, 2006; Mannuzza, Klein, Bessler, Malloy, & LaPadula, 1993). Background: The purpose of this systematic review was to examine effectiveness of land-based exercise interventions for improving quality of life (QOL) of individuals with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.

Methods: A systematic search included PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Academic Search Premier, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Inclusion criteria included land-based exercise interventions aimed to improve lower extremity strength and QOL, published since 2000. Exclusion criteria included OA of joints other than the knee, and aquatic-based and surgical interventions. Studies were evaluated using a modified version of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) methodology score.

BACKGROUND: In this study, the authors examined the effectiveness of an online support system (Comprehensive Health Enhancement Support System [CHESS]) versus the Internet in relieving physical symptom distress in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

METHODS: In total, 285 informal caregiver-patient dyads were assigned randomly to receive, for up to 25 months, standard care plus training on and access to either use of the Internet and a list of Internet sites about lung cancer (the Internet arm) or CHESS (the CHESS arm). Past research suggests that senior citizens often face challenges related to deteriorating physical and men- tal health, and the quality of their lives may suffer as a result. Past research also suggests that volunteering can improve the health and quality of life for seniors. In the present study, 451 volunteers enrolled in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) completed surveys including questions regarding their volunteer experiences and how these experiences have affected their health and quality of life. Falls are a costly, disabling, and life-threatening risk in the elderly. Improvements in physical function, balance, lower extremity strength, and health-related quality of life are hypothesized to help mitigate fall risk. In this pilot study, six women and men with an average age of 81 years participated in a 6-week exercise and education program created to reduce risk of falls. Prostate cancer treatment presents multiple challenges that can negatively affect health-related quality of life (HrQoL), and which may be further compromised by maladaptive personality styles and psychological adjustment difficulties. This study examined the utility of a comprehensive psychosocial screening tool to identify psychosocial traits that prospectively predict HrQoL status among men treated for localized prostate cancer. Background: This longitudinal study describes the five year trajectories of health-related quality of life (HR-QOL) and life satisfaction in long term colorectal cancer survivors.Patients and methods: A population-based sample of 1966 colorectal cancer survivors were surveyed at six time points from five months to five years post-diagnosis. Predictor variables were: socio-demographic variables, optimism; cancer threat appraisal; perceived social support. Quality of life was assessed with the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Colorectal (HR-QOL); and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. This study examined the effects of physical activity on the attention span and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children in Singapore. Male participants (N = 12) aged 2-6 years, diagnosed with ASD were randomly assigned to either a physical activity or non-physical activity group. In the physical activity group, participants were administered 8 tri-cycling sessions; both groups of participants were measured for their attention span, and their parents completed the HRQoL questionnaires. Expectations held by health professionals and their patients are likely to affect treatment choices in subacute inpatient rehabilitation settings for older adults. วัตถุประสงค์: เพื่อศึกษาคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลว และทำนายความรู้สึกไม่แน่นอนใน ความเจ็บป่วย ความแตกฉานด้านสุขภาพ และการสนับสนุนทางสังคมที่มีต่อคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ป่วย ภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลว \nรูปแบบการวิจัย: การวิจัยเชิงความสัมพันธ์พยากรณ์ \nวิธีดำเนินการวิจัย: กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ ผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลวอายุมากกว่าหรือเท่ากับ 18 ปี ที่มา ติดตามรับการรักษา ณ คลินิกโรคหัวใจ โรงพยาบาลสรรพสิทธิประสงค์ จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี จำนวน 85 ราย เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูล คือ แบบสอบถามข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล แบบสอบถามความ รู้สึกไม่แน่นอนในความเจ็บป่วยฉบับชุมชน แบบประเมินความแตกฉานด้านสุขภาพขั้นพื้นฐานสำหรับ ผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลว แบบวัดการช่วยเหลือทางสังคมแบบพหุมิติ และแบบสอบถามวิถีชีวิตของ ผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลว ผ่านการตรวจสอบความตรงตามเนื้อหาและวิเคราะห์ความเที่ยงแล้ว มีค่า ความเที่ยงมากกว่า 0.80 วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนา สัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ของเพียร์สัน \nและการวิเคราะห์ถดถอยแบบเข้าพร้อมกัน \nผลการวิจัย: \n1. ผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลวมีคุณภาพชีวิตอยู่ในระดับปานกลางร้อยละ 54.1 \n2. ผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลวมีความแตกฉานด้านสุขภาพอยู่ในระดับไม่เพียงพอร้อยละ 47.1\n3. ความรู้สึกไม่แน่นอนในความเจ็บป่วยเพียงตัวแปรเดียวที่สามารถทํานายคุณภาพชีวิตของ ผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลวได้อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (B = 651, p < .001) \n4. ความรู้สึกไม่แน่นอนในความเจ็บป่วย ความแตกฉานด้านสุขภาพ การสนับสนุนทางสังคม สามารถร่วมกันทำนายคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลวได้ร้อยละ 46.8 อย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ AWANG (R2 = .468, p < .001) \nสรุปและข้อเสนอแนะ: \nการศึกษาครั้งนี้พบว่าความรู้สึกไม่แน่นอนในความเจ็บป่วยสามารถทำนายคุณภาพ ชีวิตได้สูง จึงควรนำผลการวิจัยที่ได้มาพัฒนาโปรแกรมการดูแลผู้ป่วย และมีการทดสอบประสิทธิผลของ โปรแกรม เพื่อลดความรู้สึกไม่แน่นอนในความเจ็บป่วยที่จะส่งผลให้ผู้ป่วยภาวะหัวใจล้มเหลวมีคุณภาพชีวิต ที่ดีต่อไป
