Improving The Healthcare Transition For Adolescents With Asthma: Implementing A Transition Readiness Assessment, Andrea Pauley Jan 2022

Improving The Healthcare Transition For Adolescents With Asthma: Implementing A Transition Readiness Assessment, Andrea Pauley

DNP Projects

BACKGROUND: Asthma is the most common pediatric chronic disease in the United States and adolescence represents the highest prevalence among all age groups. Transition planning is recommended for all adolescents, especially those with special health care needs (SHCN). Only 17% of adolescents with SHCN receive adequate transition planning.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to implement the Transition Readiness Assessment Questionnaire (TRAQ) for adolescents age 12 years and older with asthma to identify the current level of transition readiness and identify factors associated with readiness.

METHODS: This study was an exploratory, cross-sectional design to evaluate and describe participants’ level …

Increasing Medication Compliance In Pediatric Asthma Patients By Implementing A Home Medication Dosing Chart, Lindsey K. Shader Jan 2020

Increasing Medication Compliance In Pediatric Asthma Patients By Implementing A Home Medication Dosing Chart, Lindsey K. Shader

DNP Projects

Background: There are 6.2 million children under the age of 18 years who have an asthma diagnosis (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). Only 60% of children ages 7-17 years with persistent asthma maintain their prescribed inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) controller medication regimen (Arnold, Bixenstine, Cheng, & Tschudy, 2018). The purpose of this paper is to discuss a practice inquiry project that incorporated the implementation of an asthma medication dosing chart to increase compliance in pediatric asthma patients.

Method: The quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design evaluated the daily use of a medication dosing chart, which was to serve as a physical reminder …

Effectiveness Of A School-Based Asthma Education Program For 8-10-Year-Old Children, Laura Hunt

DNP Projects

Background: Asthma is the most common chronic condition to affect children in the United States Five million children throughout the United States and approximately 112, 000 children in Kentucky are living with the diagnosis of asthma (CDC, 2017; CHFS, 2017). The Effect Of A Child's Guardian's Health Literacy On Asthma Knowledge In Pediatric Patients, Sylvan Ryder

DNP Projects

PURPOSE: The purpose of this project is to determine if there is a correlation between a guardian’s health literacy and their knowledge of their child’s asthma management.

Screening Tool Within Emr Aimed At Identification Of Pediatric Asthma As A Movement Towards Accountable Patient Care, Robin Yanguas Jan 2016

Screening Tool Within Emr Aimed At Identification Of Pediatric Asthma As A Movement Towards Accountable Patient Care, Robin Yanguas

DNP Projects

In this retrospective cohort study a screening tool aimed at identification of pediatric asthma based on patients’ symptoms and directions for referral for PFT testing was placed in a Pediatric Practice site EMR in template form as a movement towards Accountable Patient Care. Twenty-eight pre-intervention patients and 5 post-intervention patients met criteria based on symptoms for referral to perform PFT testing to evaluate asthma as a diagnosis. These records were evaluated to see if PFT testing was performed, and if performed how it correlated with an asthma diagnosis. The screening tool had 100% identification of asthma as a diagnosis for …
