PMG Oregon currently schedules approximately 60,000 New Patient visits each year. New patients are often seen at their first visit, with very little, and/or, without most up-to-date medical information transferred to their new clinical care team. The delay or lack of information results in challenges to our clinic teams to provide the best care for our new patients. It also results in providers/care teams spending additional time entering clinical data either during the new patient appointment, after the appointment, and often additional appointments are needed to address patient problems that could be completed in the initial visit.

The posterior midline approach to the lumbar spine requires significant manipulation of the paraspinal muscles. Muscle detachment and retraction results in iatrogenic damage such as crush injury, devascularization, and denervation, all of which have been associated with postoperative pain. The muscle most directly affected by the posterior approach is the lumbar multifidus (LM), the largest and most medial of the deep lumbar paraspinal muscles. The effects of the posterior approach on the integrity of the LM is concerning, as multiple studies have demonstrated that intraoperative injuries sustained by the LM lead to postoperative muscle atrophy and potentially worsening low back …

Play Smart Youth Heart Screening is a free community-based electrocardiogram (ECG) screening program sponsored by Providence Heart Institute in Portland, Oregon. Play Smart goal is to identify youths who may need further follow-up and treatment of undiagnosed, asymptomatic heart disease such as cardiac arrest. For many youths, sudden cardiac arrest is their first symptom of heart disease. Play Smart has sought to systematically improve ECG screening accuracy (specificity) by consistently adopting the most recent ECG interpretation guidelines. More accurate screening (less false-positive screens) enables Play Smart to target recommendations for follow-up treatment only to those individuals with true-positive screening results.

PURPOSE: Oral mucositis (OM) remains a common, debilitating toxicity of radiation therapy (RT) for head and neck cancer. The goal of this phase IIb, multi-institutional, randomized, double-blind trial was to compare the efficacy and safety of GC4419, a superoxide dismutase mimetic, with placebo to reduce the duration, incidence, and severity of severe OM (SOM).

A significantly higher proportion of patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) who received obeticholic acid (OCA) had histological improvement relative to placebo in the FLINT (farnesoid X nuclear receptor ligand obeticholic acid for noncirrhotic, NASH treatment) trial. However, genetic predictors of response to OCA are unknown. We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) in FLINT participants to identify variants associated with NASH resolution and fibrosis improvement. In 2016 Providence St. Patrick Hospital Serious Infection Rate (SIR) for Hospital Acquired C. difficile Infections (HACDI) was well above the acceptable standard. Patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) frequently report pain, stiffness, fatigue, and sleep problems, which may lead to impaired physical activity. The majority of reported-on measures evaluating physical activity and sleep disturbance in axSpA are self-reported questionnaires, which can be impacted by patient recall (reporting bias). One objective measure, polysomnography, has been employed to evaluate sleep in patients with axSpA; however, it is an intrusive measure and cannot be used over the long term. BACKGROUND: TNF receptor family agonists and checkpoint blockade combination therapies lead to minimal tumor clearance of poorly immunogenic tumors. Therefore, a need to enhance the efficacy of this combination therapy arises. Antigen-presenting cells (APCs) present antigen to T cells and steer the immune response through chemokine and cytokine secretion.
