A normalisationof targeted genes using the appropriate reference genes is necessary for reliable quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) experiments. This study aimed to investigate the appropriate reference genes and the numbers of the genes required for qRT-PCR in canine pulmonary arteries. Pulmonary arteries were collected from twenty-three dogs at necropsy. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of Diarrhea pathogens in pet dogs referred to as Canine Parvovirus (CPV) and Canine Rotavirus (CRV)in western Taiwan using conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR).Fecalsampleswere collected from240 dogs which have the symptomsofdiarrhea examined bythe veterinaryhospitals from March 2015 to March 2017.The PCR sensitivityof total DNAs extracted from 0.1g fecal samples rangedfrom 10ng to100 ng. Granulomas can “mimic” gliomas on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in human patients. The goal of this retrospective study was to report canine brain granulomas that were consistent with glioma based upon MRI, report their histologic diagnosis, and identify MRI criteria that might be useful to distinguish granuloma from glioma. Ten granulomas, initially suspected to be glioma based on MRI, were ultimately diagnosed as granulomatous meningoencephalomyelitis (n = 5), infectious granulomas (n = 3) or other meningoencephalitis (n = 2). BACKGROUND: Ureteroceles are a rare condition in dogs in which conventional treatments can result in substantial morbidity. Cystoscopic and fluoroscopic-guided laser ablation (CLA) of ureteroceles can successfully relieve obstruction.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the technique and outcomes of attempting CLA for treatment of ureteroceles in dogs.

ANIMALS: Thirteen client-owned dogs that underwent CLA for treatment of ureteroceles.

Arthritis is a very common chronic debilitating disease in people and dogs alike. It does not discriminate based on species, and one in five dogs suffer from osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and anti-arthritic efficacy of a nutraceutical, Flex Choice, in moderately arthritic canines. Five moderately arthritic canines that weighed between 40-65 pounds were selected for this study. A small pupil and poor pupil dilation are well-known risk factors faced by veterinary ophthalmologists during and after cataract surgery. We here describe two cases of phacoemulsification performed using an iris expander (Visitec I-Ring Pupil Expander, Beaver-Visitec International, USA) for treating cataracts in dogs with small pupils. Using this technique, we performed cataract extraction effectively in dogs with insufficiently dilated pupils. This case report provides useful information on the use of an iris expander for phacoemulsification in eyes with a small pupil, which can be applied in veterinary settings.

The effects of phenylboronic acid (PBA) and boric acid (BA) on the proliferation of canine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were investigated. Treatment of PBMCs from mixed breed dogs with PBA or BA (0.05 µg/mL) alone elicited blastogenic responses of 0.478 ± 0.438 and 0.499 ± 0.366, respectively. We observed an additive effect on proliferation when purebred Kangal PBMCs were cultured in a combination of BA (0.001 µg/mL) and the mitogenic lectin concanavalin A (1 µg/mL). However, the effects were not statistically significant. We detected varied IL-2 and IL-4 secretion in response to stimulation with boron-containing compounds. Our findings suggest …
