Histones are an important aspect in human cells because they play a role in gene regulation. Histones package DNA into structural units, where DNA wraps around the histones form nucleosomes. Histone acetylation is important in human cells because these modifications open up chromatin to allow for gene expression. Bromodomains are protein domains that can recognize and bind to histone acetylation. Bromodomains play a significant role in gene transcription and the regulation of chromatin. BRD3 is a gene that contains two bromodomains and recognizes/binds to acetylated chromatin. BRD3 is mutated in some cancers, though many bromodomain mutations have not been investigated. …
